Moon-Eyed People

Wikipedia:
In his 1902 Myths of the Cherokee, ethnographer James Mooney described a "dim but persistent tradition" of an ancient race who preceded the Cherokee in lower Appalachia and were driven out by them. Accounts often describe this race as having white skin and credit them with building the ancient structures in the area. The earliest recorded mention of this race appears to be in Benjamin Smith Barton's 1797 book New Views of the Origin of the Tribes and Nations of America. Citing the authority of Colonel Leonard Marbury, Barton wrote that "the Cherokee tell us, that when they first arrived in the country which they inhabit, they found it possessed by certain 'moon-eyed-people,' who could not see in the day-time. These wretches they expelled." Barton suggested these "moon-eyed people" were the ancestors of the albinos Lionel Wafer encountered among the Kuna people of Panama, who were called "moon-eyed" because they could see better at night than day.

Paranormal Himalayas: Full of Amazing Finds!

Mt. Everest at 29,000 feet and other mountains in the Tibetan Plateau that tempt hikers to climb to their summits are also magnets for unexplained mysteries. The Himalayas are the tallest peaks in the world and growing a fraction of an inch each year. If para experiences occur rampantly in geologically active areas, then Tibet is surely one of the most spooky places in the world!

URBEX: Desert Finds!

A chilly wet weekend poking around in the desert for abandoned sites proved rewarding. My best friend and I have been studying this dump site of trailers, trucks, and belongings for almost a decade. Watching it age over the years is interesting. We also dropped by the burned out house to see how weather has warped it.

Tips For Planning Expeditions

There is nothing like an expedition to get the mental and physical juices flowing. Movies like "Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" inspire that inborn trait in mankind to seek answers and put oneself in the setting of greatness.

The Case of the Blue Lights

This story takes place at my family's summer home in New Point, Virginia on a quiet inlet of the Chesapeake. This Victorian home had some strange things about it, but the area around it was much more haunted. The house faced a cemetery.

Snow rollers

Snow rollers are a rare meteorological phenomenon. Did you ever build a snow fort as a kid? Start with a snowball, roll it along the ground to make a giant ball? Well, in the right conditions, wind can pick up snow and roll it!

Gourmet: Eat Like a Sasquatch

We utilize farmer's markets to get freshly grown items to enhance our cooking experience, but many chefs find items grown in the wild to be exotic local tastes to add to their dishes. They consider it a natural enhancement, but the woodlands really were the first growing sources for food.

Valentine's Day Horror Movies and Spring Fever Horror Movies

About this time of year, many of us are having spring fever. I know have it big-time but where I live it's been in the 80s, so it will spark your desire to go out into the sunlight. Couple that with the infamous day of the year couples are obligated to show their love and devotion, and you have the most anti-horror day there is. And yet, those of us who love horror and don't celebrate Valentine's might like to retreat into a horror marathon. Here's some ideas -

Designing a Creepy Garden

I am more obsessed with the outside of the home than the inside and I also love gothic atmosphere. There are a lot of wonderful ways to add creepiness, mystery, magic and frights to a garden.

Isolated Hauntings Show

The guys on "Isolated Hauntings" are some Canadians with a passion about hauntings and sites that show particular promise. I've been following them for a while and was pleased to see this episode out. It is my hope they get some production backing to bring this to a wider audience.

What's In My Library? UFO Cases of Interest by Roger Marsh

I thought I'd start to periodically show some of the books I keep for reference in my library. I have quite the home study, filled with Bigfoot casts, a wall of photos of adventures, tons of files, a life-sized Tesla cutout, and LOTS of books.

The REAL Settlers of America?

There are many native legends across America involving a culture of "white" or "giant" people who were here first with an advanced civilization, mining, canal systems, etc. This is one account that is quite striking -

Castlenau: Giant of France

In the Castlenau-le-Lez Cemetery in France in 1890, a skeleton was dug up that made everyone scratch their heads in wonder. It would appear to have been the tallest man ever recorded at 11-feet 6-inches.  The body was believed to have been from the Neolithic Era (between 10,500 BC and 4500 to 2000 BC). He was estimated to be from around 9500 BC.

Red Camel Ghost Legend

I am intrigued by the fact that the Southwestern US was forward-thinking enough in the 1800s to acquire camels for use by the army men. When the Civil War interrupted their charting of the Arizona territory, the army sold some at auction but let some loose into the desert. That is how the legend of the Red Camel came to be.
