NBC's newest drama "Manifest," after a turbulent, but routine flight from Jamaica to NYC, the passengers and crew discover the world has aged five years, yet no time has passed for them, and soon a deeper mystery unfolds. Curtiss stars as flight passenger 'Radd,' a leading musician from the Jamaican Philharmonic who must deal with the consequences of being absent for 5 years, which includes being re-introduced to his son who was just 13 years-old when he disappeared and is now a young adult at the age of 18. In the series, Curtiss' son is portrayed by his actual real-life son, Curtiss Cook Jr., and includes deeply emotional and intense scenes between the father and son team.

Giant of the Day: Ancient Giant Footprints
Ancient giant footprints....
The Carson City ancient foot trackway dates around 50,000 years old and showed what appeared to be giant human footprints.
During sandstone quarrying operations in the late 1870's on the grounds of Nevada State Prison, in Carson City, a variety of animal tracks were found, including those of mammoth, bison, horse, deer, wolf, birds, as well as some large oblong tracks of uncertain origin. In 1882, sheriff W. J. Hanks of Storey County brought the find to the attention of H. W. Harkness of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Harkness identified the track beds as late Pliocene in age (approx. 2 million years old) and interpreted the problematic tracks as giant human footprints (Davis, 1912). Other geologists identified the prints as being near the Pliocene-Quaternary border, which would place them at about 1.6 million years by conventional geology, although Stock (1936) implied an age of only 50,000 years.
The prints in question were approximately 18 to 21 inches long and 8 to 9 inches wide. Though bearing a superficial resemblance to human prints, the tracks lacked obvious digit impressions and normal heel-ball-arch bottom contours typically found in human prints--features that Harkness explained by suggesting the giant trackmaker might have worn sandals. However, besides the enormous size and lack of distinct human features, the tracks also showed an unusual gait pattern, with a wide trackway gauge of 18 to 19 inches but very short average pace length (for the size of the prints) of only about 2 and a half feet.
This was said to be a giant sloth's print but here's a photo (below) of a giant sloth's print....
Considering these sandals (below) were found in Lovelock Cave, our culprit would appear to be a large human walking around Lake Lohontan about 50,000 years ago.
Elvira's Cassandra Peterson
Today marks Cassandra Peterson's (aka "Elvira) birthday. It is also my birthday today.
Both of us love horror, have a sassy sense of humor and red hair. Perhaps there is something about being born on this day that brings up a darker tongue-in-cheek aspect.
Her life has been more interesting than anyone would know including being a showgirl/dancer, a lead singer in rock bands in Europe, even briefly dating Elvis, and then moving into acting, and eventually landing the unique and greatly-loved role as "Elvira," hostess to horror movies.
Happy birthday, Cassandra! You are beloved for daring to take on the world in many original roles, the most beloved of which is Elvira -

When I was a child, I was obsessed with scarecrows. I wasn't sure they were effective. It seemed the crows like to use them to rest upon. But, those silent sentinels of country gardens were things of nightmares; a human-like figure crucified against the setting sun between rows of bright green corn stalks....
