Was Easter Island a Memorial for a Lost Continent?

Easter Island in the South Pacific is an ongoing mystery to many.

What happened to the Rapa Nui people?
Did they get visitors or were they visitors themselves?
Why did they construct these enormous Moai statues or did they?
What's with this supposed battle researchers claim occurred there between two groups?

It's believed the Rapa Nui settled the islands around 1200 AD.  The first recorded contact with outsiders that was officially noted was in 1722, but in 1770, the Spanish arrived and claimed it as their own.  They brought with them syphilis and other diseases the people had no immunity to.

Moai statues were supposedly created by the Rapa Nui around 1200 CE (AD) and supposedly carved to represent their ancestors, but this was disputed by other researchers who say the Rapa Nui were the second migration to Easter Island.

Legends say the long-earred ones (white skinned, red-haired, elongated earlobes) were first migration to Easter Island and built the Moai statues which interestingly are giant, slope-headed, wide-nosed, with pointed heads in the back. (Source - Aku Aku by Thor Heyerdahl).

I am developing a concept that a sunken continent had citizens that escaped volcanic/seismic activity and escaped to other land masses. The supposed lost Continent of Mu is a good example. It reportedly had citizens who escaped (in the legend) to other lands before or during catastrophe. These people, who were well advanced, took their skills to the new lands they found to inhabit. And, it is likely some of the first places they found were the Solomon Islands and Easter Island.

If this were the case, these 7 Moai (below), that are oriented looking west out to sea, could be a memorial. If you were a people who lost your continent to disaster, and your homeland was gone, wouldn't you place a memorial seaside, the figures facing the homeland and having the appearance of the people of your land? There is no better way for all eternity to recall these people, from "out there" who settled on this island.

They look to their homeland?

What was the supposed Pacific continent of Mu?

There are legends of a continent called Lemuria or Mu. One writer spoke of it being in the Atlantic and James Churchward later wrote many books about it, stating it was in the Pacific. He said he was led to some clay tablets by a temple priest in India, who helped him learn to read about the original people of "Mu." They were described as a "white" race who were advanced and they went "extinct" 12,000 years ago. He also stated, from these writings, that the citizens escaped when a series of volcano eruptions and earthquakes rocked the continent and eventually destroyed it completely.

One has to wonder too, as Native People are said to have come across the Behring Strait 12,000 years ago into North America, if there was a rush of people escaping some catastrophe at that time from many affected land masses in the Pacific. Here is one possible cause -

Source: Roughly 12,900 years ago, massive global cooling kicked in abruptly, along with the end of the line for some 35 different mammal species, including the mammoth, as well as the so-called Clovis culture of prehistoric North Americans. Various theories have been proposed for the die-off, ranging from abrupt climate change to overhunting once humans were let loose on the wilds of North America. But now nanodiamonds found in the sediments from this time period point to an alternative: a massive explosion or explosions by a fragmentary comet, similar to but even larger than the Tunguska event of 1908 in Siberia.

(This would also support the concept of the ant people to the Hopi - potential lost giant culture and loss of advanced knowledge. We all agree that, if today we lost our technology and were thrown into the ice age again, we might lose all the knowledge we had gained).

This is a compelling prospect because there seems to be commonalities between continents that had nothing to do with each other in ancient times, such as the appearance of pyramids, hieroglyphs and certain art styles and spiritual practices, which shows that a common denominator might have influenced them. The re-deposited citizens of a fatal continent would take with them their language, technology, and culture.

Interestingly, near Japan, underground structures have been found of ancient origin and Easter Island is described on the map of Mu as being the southeastern tip of the continent.

Were there two groups on Easter Island, a prior and a latter? It would seem very possible!

From the book Cranial and Postcranial Skeletal Remains From Easter Island by Rupert Ivan Murrill, the skulls on Easter Island were compared with other Pacificers and found similar to Melanesian, Polynesian and Australian.  The skulls were long, narrow, and high.  Heyerdahl (1960 p 345) - Long ears are Peruvian - (white men with red hair?) The short ears arrived at Easter Island in the 1200s - after long ears! Heyerdahl (1961 page 37) mentions Knoche's statement that short earred ones came there in 1200s.

The Long Ears of Easter Island by William L. Ernst
From Thor Heyerdahl's book "Aku-Aku"
The earliest date of human occupation of Easter Island was established at 386 A.D. (plus or minus 100 years) by archaeologists in Heyerdahl's expedition who used carbon dating of charcoal found at cooking sites.  The oral history describes the "long ears" as the early period's population and the builders of the monuments.  The "short ears" came to the island later and apparently worked for the "long ears" as helpers.  A deadly feud occurred and the "short-ears" reversed a trap set for them and murdered the "long-ears" at Hotu-iti

Interestingly, the legend of the short ears and long ears tells that the long ears dug a ditch and filled it with brush to lead the short ears into it and burn them. A long-ear married to a short-ear betrayed her kind and she betrayed his kind, getting the short ears to come up behind them and chase the long-ears into the burning ditch and two escaped to a cave where one was killed and one remained alive. (Burning of  giants - found in the Paiutes legend in Nevada and the Aborigines story in Australia). Interestingly, repeatedly natives of the Americas tell of these white-skinned, red-haired giants being cannibals and also taking them in and making them slaves until they were able to outsmart and kill them.

There is no doubt that these stories from all over the world that repeat the same theme are playing out a scenario told by ancestors of legendary battles or even wishes and hopes that their people outsmarted and rose up against the giants.

Interestingly, there are legends of the giants coming ashore in Peru, being found on the Solomon Islands, settling on Catalina Island in California and into Nevada at the once great lake, Lahontan.

Of course, giants didn't come from nowhere. They had to have an origin, as we do. Here is one possibility -

Off the shore of Taiwan, a 200,000 year old jaw was found that was a new kind of man not found before, one that existed before Homo sapiens left Africa and took the world. They had large molars and robust jaw (like Denisovans). Now, this is in a right region to have produced descendants who founded a continent. In fact, it's very find in the ocean off shore might further support a lost continent's remains spread over an ocean floor in the Pacific.

Was Easter Island first inhabited by an ancient giant race? Were the Rapa Nui credited for feats that were not of their own doing? Considering the highly controversial study of the island and how it fell, we should take another look at the island with a fresh eye by looking at the evidence left behind.

The Moai Kavacava carvings were idols on Easter Island. No one knows who these figures were, but as usual (catch-all explanation), they are interpreted as idols of ancestors or gods.

Interestingly, these figures have gracile limbs and long ears with strong brows. This would appear to be a representation of the original islanders/long-earreds.

(notice the Moai's long ears?)

'Easter Island also had a language made of symbols that the Rapa Nui could not decipher, or anyone else. Rongorongo -

Is it possible to have missing land masses? There are incidents of missing land masses following tsunamis and melting from the ice age. There was a continent called Doggerland in the North Sea between Great Britain and Northern Europe.

Ultimately, whether or not there was a lost continent and escapees from some catastrophe, we have evidence of unusual and unexplained cultures that rose up and went under for various unknown reasons, from the Anasazi to the Aztecs to the Rapa Nui. When we look at a land and assume that what is upon it was built by the residents that are there when we discover it, we are jumping to some conclusions. Much the same could be said of the Sphinx, made apparently by a prior culture.

Legends by the Native People often reveal more than anyone was ever willing to slow down and listen to. Early explorers found their "tales" entertaining but never gave them credence. The fact is, legends are a way of passing down information about some extraordinary times.

Until we can jump into the past, we will always be just coming to conclusions based on evidence, but we must always keep our minds open and be humble. No one has closed the book on why these statues sit upon Easter Island, what happened to the Rapa Nui, and more. In fact, we discovered the statues had bodies beneath the soil (known about it since early 1900s, but only recently being excavated more extensively), so the book is still wide open to understand this amazing puzzle that sits in a most remote part of the South Pacific.

New Book Must Have - Outbreak: The Mutation

I have been watching Scott Shoyer's writing for six years now and I am so impressed by his creativity, grit, and natural talent. His second book in the Outbreak series is out - yahoo!

The first book Outbreak: The Hunger had me riveted. I would love to see this one in a movie! The new one in the series, Outbreak: The Mutation.

Outbreak: The Mutation, Volume Two in theTrend-Bucking Zombie Trilogy, Releases a Deadly, Unstoppable Zombie Horde on the World—Hailed as “A Frightening, Violent, and Gory Un-Dead Story”

Masterfully crafted by Scott Shoyer, The Mutation, the powerful second volume in the Outbreak trilogy, continues to break the stagnant mold of zombie fiction as it ensnare and brings readers along in a deadly last chance attempt to save the world from complete annihilation. The Mutation takes place two years after a deadly virus swept across the world. Not only does Shoyer have his readers follow two groups of people as they fight for survival, but he again takes readers where they have never been before—this time on a horrifying trip inside the minds of the deadly zombies themselves. The Mutation is intense, violent, and brings the genre back from the dead.

Be sure and check out his blog (Anything Horror), too. The man knows horror like no one's business!

Where Our Souls Go

The hardest part of human existence is both understanding our mortality and understanding our attachments to others and to our process of having a life. Spirituality is a natural result of that consciousness, as we need to make sense of something so utterly unfair as death.

Where does the soul go?

Some call it Heaven, others say there is no soul. It is all determined by spiritual and religious beliefs, but what is the actual location of the soul?

I am reminded of something my father told me about my Grandfather Thorvaldsen (who died before I was born). He said that Grandfather was a very well educated society member in Norway, spoke several languages, and contemplated life. He believed in reincarnation and that we actually choose the life we want to enter, in order to be sure that we face a trial that we have yet to master by the soul.

When things have not gone well in my life, I recall that concept. What if our souls refine themselves by choosing challenges that round our experiences? So, if I chose this life, I needed to master the issues I've had here, mainly being alone, losing loved ones, letting others determine my priorities, being estranged from my hometown. If I chose this life, then I must learn to handle these obstacles. It is part of a test of my soul.

In fact, some regression therapists report that they are able to bring patients through regression hypnosis to the point of pre-birth and the choosing of the life they need to lead.

The skeptical and logical side of me has to ask; does anyone have to experience an awesome life of abundance, health, love and total joy? Is that a necessary test? Because I want to sign up for that!

Near-death experiences have shed some light on the process of the soul leaving the physical vessel, but what does it tell us of location?

Experiencers describe the sight of looking down on their body. For a period of time, it would appear that we either literally remain in the location of the body death in this physical realm with access to viewing this world and the - whoosh - we are sent on to a location that varies from dark earth like being buried to fiery pits, bright light, a tunnel, or a gorgeous nature setting.

If we are without the physical form, we can assume that our perspective of what we "see" is not visual but knowledge by another sense. It could be that projections from our own desires and memories could color the world we see. If "Heaven" is anything like my desires on earth, it would look like this -

The light can be described as coming from the almighty to being a location in space. The sense the viewer gets from the light is that it is love and acceptance, a homecoming like no other; familiar and yet transcends any feelings we had on the earthly plane.

There are also accounts of dead relatives, Jesus, strangers of light and goodness that guide us, help us to find answers as we adapt. Remember, we are shifting from what we knew (taught on Earth) to what we will come to know there. Our only references are religious teachings and the like.

This reminds me of the process of being born into the physical realm - bright light, love, people to greet you, arms to hold you, and a feeling of no longer being alone.

Once one has gone to the light, been greeted by loved ones, they often report a life review in which you are shown how you handled the physical life and their choices, priorities, and actions.

Further reports say that we end up in a big terminal with other souls, awaiting our choice of what life to be born into. Interestingly, if we considered this reincarnation concept as a possibility, then it would seem that history repeating itself may have a good deal to do with the same souls re-existing in the physical world.

The skeptical and logical part of me has to ask why recycle? We have enough souls to fill the billions of bodies on the earth compared with the millions we once had - what were those billions of souls doing, waiting for population to increase? Ultimately, some theorists say, we choose to go through physical form again and that also means giving up all memories of the prior existence so that each time it is a novel experience. Perhaps this is the origin of the term "wise old soul."

Where is this location the soul goes to? It may not be as simple as pointing to the sky and saying "there." It might be like a movie projected onto a screen - it is not playing out in three dimensions like we do, but is in any place you choose to aim the projector.

Does one soul have to be in one place or can it simultaneously visit relatives around the world at the same time? Some family members have reported seeing a dead relative at the same time in distant locations upon the person's death. If a soul has no form we associate with the physical "earth skin" they once wore, than they can project their image, either into the person's mind or in their physical space.

We cannot point a location and say "that is where the spirit lies," but we might pay heed to the Native Cultures who observe spirit in all things - trees, sky, air, fire, water, animals, birds.... They may be onto something - the universal "knit" that is the spirit realm and that connects all as one.

Truly, if we consider the loss of physicality, location would be as irrelevant as time - there is no attrition, no mortal clock ticking, no holding vessel for the soul. This is very much other-dimensional when you consider it.

As we take up space with 2-dimensional images in paintings, photographs, television and the like, I suspect that we share our space with "Heaven" which presents itself as sometimes interacting with our realm. This is the same way my finger can interact with a photograph. A momentary interruption. For them, their presence sweeps by and in our 3D concept, we get a wispy faint sense of them.

Where is it our souls go? Anywhere and everywhere, for infinity.

What Is This OOPART Relic???

OOPART: Out-of-place-artifact.

Found high up on a mountain in Montana by two men bear hunting, this little rock carving was found partially buried in the ground. It is quite intriguing for many reasons, the main one being, it is not a style utilized by Northwestern Tribes.

It appeared to be broken off of some larger entity that it was a part of and the stone was of a kind quarried about 10 miles away.

The dotted eyes and pursed lips and angle of the nose arch to brow reminded me of moundbuilder artifacts from Grave Creek, WV.

It also reminds me of the Etowah Mounds artifacts from Georgia.

When we find such styles around the US and they are ancient, as well as finding similar styles mimicked in Mayan and Aztec work, we have to believe there was a prior culture. We have already found remains in the Carolinas dating man back 50K in the Americas.

It seems like some kind of viper head atop of it, wrapping around it?

It gets stranger when you turn it over and on the rough side, you find some kind of writing.

It's understandable how our education system has created connections in our brains. We see such art or writing and thinking "Nordic ruins" and "Aztecs," but we are missing something else - an originating culture that gave us all our language and architecture, art styles and even god concepts.

It might not have been that our ancient cultures traveled all about, leaving their traces, but that our cultures that settled into their regions, found another culture already there, one that they emulated. This would give us a universal quality to ancient early art and writing, architecture and technology.

What is this artifact? Did it come from a bigger work still buried in the ground? Why was it so high up atop a mountain rarely visited? So many questions. So few answers.

The mystery continues....
