This will be an ongoing series chronicling a few years' worth of encounters with bizarre, horrific, and taunting interplay between one innocent citizen and a stalker that defies description (at least in our known world).
This was an exceptionally well-documented series of events that may at times be too graphic or horrifying for some readers, but it is our hope that by sharing this experience, someone out there might recognize a set of circumstances that are similar.

It had been relatively quiet in his neck of the woods and the Walker had gotten used to his routine being uninterrupted by much more than thoughts of his family and some work that had been piling up on his desk. The winter had been fairly mild, but seemed to drag on and he was ready for spring when he woke up one day and went out to get in his jeep.
The passenger door was open and the Walker looked around, wondering if his wife had gone to get something and left it open. It wasn't like her to do that.
He approached the car, studying the empty interior as he came around to the passenger side open door, a sinking feeling took over. He remembered the last time the Stalker had been in his jeep, trying to fit into the driver's side and knocking the visor and mat around on the floor.
He gave his vehicle a cursory looking over, with nothing out of place. He lifted his head and looked over at the other car in the driveway and noticed its passenger door looked open.
The Walker came around and checked the car and, yup, the door was ajar. Nothing was messed up or missing inside from what he could tell.
The Walker stood up and looked around and pondered the Stalker. At least IT had learned it couldn't fit into the driver's side. The Walker tried to find some humor in a situation that was truly frightening. This thing had way too much focus on him and getting much too close to home. Considering IT had every opportunity to pick up a rock and break a window but had not, was his only comfort.
Living in the country, locking one's car doors seemed hardly relevant and now it felt like a priority. With a set of his jaw, the Walker thought to go over to the shed, the other place the Stalker was known to root around.
The door was open.
He eagerly studied all the tools on his bench and solvents, items that he was working on. Nope, nothing was gone.
His eyes trailed along to the tool bench and he plugged in the grinder which startled him by starting up immediately. One thing the Walker never did was unplug a running machine. Someone had hit the switch, but didn't know to plug it in?
Rattled, but determined, the Walker went about his day, pushing it aside, but feeling a gnawing desire to secure his home from...who?...what?
*
The Walker and his wife went out for supper and came back one day soon after. They approached the back door where they parked the cars and went to grab the doorknob to find it was dislodged somehow. The Walker went to try the knob, but if fell to the ground, showing obvious signs of having been snapped almost completely off.
What kind of force could do that?
He had another to-do on the list to put on a new knob, but as he held the broken knob in his hand, the Walker studied the darkness outside of the circle of light provided by motion detector floods at the back door. Someone not only messed with the cars nearby, but tried to break into the house while the floodlights were blazing. That was rather brave. Although with a car missing from the driveway and perhaps the Stalker studying his comings and goings, IT likely knew they were gone for the evening.
That realization produced a shudder of fear.
*
There was only one way to see what was going on at his property and the Walker felt confident that a game cam aimed at the back door might show the culprit if he decided to come back.
The Walker took to the roadway on his daily hike, pleased by the sun and the early springtime feel to the air. He kept up a brisk pace until he reached the area where the dogs had been displayed long ago.
He came to a halt in front of a body.
Leaning over it, the Walker distinguished it was a beaver. A very large dead beaver. And it was rotting well. It wasn't there the day before. He would have stepped right on it. So, someone dropped it off in the rotted state.
Hmmm....
The Walker snapped his head back up and looked down the roadway, recalling the baby boar offerings across the road from this spot. They were almost to the day, the same time of the year. Springtime offerings?
He turned, sped away down the country road, mind buzzing, thoughts far ahead at his home, but he wasn't about to act like this upset him or that he was going to rush back home. He would finish the circuit and when he got home - he'd check the game cam!
Breathless and a bit sweatier than usual, the Walker approached the game cam. He had fixed it up on a high post facing the back door with vines all around it to keep it a bit less noticeable. One of the cars parked near the door was also in the field of vision, just in case IT tried to get into the cars again.
The vines had been moved, the camera wasn't just how he recalled it.
The Walker carried it inside and looked around a bit before entering the house. The car doors were closed. The back doorknob was fine. No footprints on the ground. Good Lord, I'm getting paranoid
The camera had taken shots. He took a breath before he clicked the mouse on the computer. He wanted to see, he didn't want to see, but he needed to see, but he didn't want to see....
The Walker leaned back in the chair for a moment and studied the ceiling. What if it was a neighbor? That would mean he lived near some kind of maniac. But, what if it was a Bigfoot or some other sort of cryptid being? How would he get rid of it now that it was fixated on his home and his walk? You couldn't just talk to one and reason with it.
He closed his eyes tightly and rubbed pinched the bridge of his nose, took a breath, and punched the mouse button, determined to just handle it one step at a time.
The first shots showed what looked like lens flare perhaps...
He didn't know what triggered the camera, but it seemed explainable. The sun was shining at an angle to create light refraction.
And, then, the Walker fell back in his seat and stared as he opened the next shots. There were four frames of something very tall triggering the camera. His hands trembled as he gathered them together into a single gif to animate the movement. His mind rushed with details about this thing.
It was obvious this thing was in profile, facing the left side of the frame, its head turned toward the camera. Its neck and head were of equal width. It seemed as if there might be the hint of a beard on the left side as the head turned a bit. And, it appeared to be hair covered.
The Walker had seen shots of himself near a game cam and you could see clothing and details of a human shape.
He rushed outside to take note of the fact its head extended above the lens. It had to be in the upper part of 7 feet tall!
The Walker got a shot of himself in front of the camera for reference. He pulled out the shots of IT and shook his head. The Walker's head was so low in the lens and his head almost even looking with the rakes against the wall. IT, however, made the car and rakes look like dwarfs.
The Walker studied the height of the camera and if It had been standing near the camera, it was surely the upper side of 7 feet! If it had been standing some distance away, even taller!
*
The Walker was still reeling from what he found on the camera. It was one thing to consider all the possibilities, but another to see something so massive and tall wandering so close to his back door. He needed some space. He needed to think.
He took the dog for a walk and as he reached the quarry road, he heard a very distinct tree knock.
He stopped.
The dog looked up at him.
He looked back as if to say, "did you hear that?"
When he got home, the dog rushed back into the bedroom behind the bed and settled in a place that was not his usual spot.
*
The Walker went about the motions of things being normal, but he had found a opossum tail in the driveway near the cars. It had been ripped off. The body, thankfully, was nowhere in sight. But the tail reminded him of the baby boars' tails left in the roadway after they were tossed alongside the road, years ago, when all this began.
In fact, on the walk he couldn't help noticing the dead beaver that had been left days ago. The buzzards had crowded around it at first, but then flew away. And never came back. And never even took one peck out of it. That was decidedly not buzzard behavior.
There were so many weird variables at play that the Walker had to wonder if this Stalker had become a full-time player in his existence. He was taking up a lot of his head space. For that reason, the Walker decided a few days of leisure was called for. If he could just exhale and get a perspective, he could see it all in a new light and maybe one that wasn't so scary....
*
It wasn't a week later when a dead opossum showed up. The Walker's dog let its nose take it to a spot in the grass way off the roadway where an opossum lay, spread eagle face up, genitalia...bitten off! It didn't seem like enough injury to kill it, but there it lay, quite dead. He studied the body. The tail was still there, so it was no the tail he had seen in his driveway recently.
*
The Walker came home, thoughts of mutilation of a wide variety of animals running through his mind like one of those old time movie projectors, flipping image after image of snake spines, deer skulls, headless rabbits, disemboweled boars, a beaver, strangled dogs....
All the Walker knew was, at this point, he did not want to either attract this entity or piss it off, so continuing to pretend to ignore was the best method, as was maintaining the game cam in the hopes of a second glimpse to compare with the first.
*
The neighbor approached the Walker as he was out on his daily jaunt.
"Someone broke into my barn and took my ATV."
The Walker frowned, his mind settling back on the repeated break-ins on his cars in his driveway.
"Seen a stranger walking around here, someone real tall." The neighbor added as if in warning.
The Walker studied the woods, his mind going to the time long ago when he saw the unusually tall silhouetted human form in a driveway on his walk. It was the driveway of the long abandoned house in the center of all the strangeness.
The Walker had given the stranger an odd wave, arm tucked up to his body tightly and lower arm making an awkward arc. He had done this instinctively, but he wasn't sure what instinct told him to do that. The sunset silhouetted tall figure tucked his arm into his body and did the same wave back. Not a natural wave. An imitation. And it wasn't the only time the Walker had seen a tall figure there, darting in and out...
*
The Walker appreciated the springtime walk. He marched right up to the opossum area and at the last moment, reflexively stopped, turned, and trudged over to see if it was there.
It was there, only something had taken it by the tail and tore the spine out. It looked like it took the tail in one hand and the body in another and just.... split!
The Walker left the area at a fast pace, but then his wandering mind got the best of him and he had to investigate. He walked over to an old cistern, wondering about how many place the Stalker might be doing things that he never noticed because he never left his beaten path.
He peered into the cistern to find a 15-20 foot long stick in it (11 o'clock position), used to probe around, only it was pretty far down. The Walker knew he couldn't reach it himself, but then he was an average height.
The Walker studied the nearby woods, shook his head as he battled his sensible self, and plunged forward into the tree line. There, he saw a dirt circle on the ground and then an antique pot wedged between two trees, having obviously been moved from an upside down position and placed there. Animals did not move objects like this. Someone with hands did!
As the Walker made his way home, it became apparent that there were some things about the Stalker that he could only attribute to someone walking on two legs. And that a human either carried a folding chair with him or was exceedingly tall!
The Stalker had removed the industrial magnet that held open the shed door and sat on the wall 7 feet up. It had also lifted his windchimes and moved them to the hook where the hummingbird feeder sat at around 7 feet up, too high for even the Walker to reach without the porch chair. The neighbor mentioned seeing the very tall man walking around and the Walker, himself, had seen that figure. Then, there were the shots taken by the game cam....
The Walker let out a long breath as he prepared to enter his home, realizing he was back to square one - either this was a troubled human or a troubled Sasquatch. Any otherworldly explanations would have to be cast aside, as it was hard enough proving that he was being stalked, much less by something alien.
He fetched some water from the sink, but out of the corner of his eye saw a shadow outside from the windows on the back door. He looked out to realize the clouds were rolling in and he was being way too cautious.
He walked over and stared out. He used to see his property and the beauty of nature, changing weather, and the peace. Now, he just saw open access to an invader. And not a damn thing the Walker could do that wouldn't either encourage or anger it....
He would, however, keep the game cam in place. He wanted comparisons and one thing he knew about the Stalker, he'd be back in the yard. Again and again....
*
He didn't want to know, but he was compelled to look as he took his walk. The Walker went to check on the opossum only to find it had been ripped apart, limb by limb, each strewn in a different area. None of it was eaten, just torn and tossed about like an unwanted rag doll.
He backed out of the area, pivoted on his heels, continued his circuit, wondering what feral being would kill so many animals and not eat them?
When he got back to his home, he checked to see the camera was in place and walked into his home, jaw set tightly as he imagined in his own way getting one up on this killer. He'd get another picture or several of it. He would compare them. And, soon he'd have a real sense of what IT was.
It wasn't a great consolation that he might sneak one up on the Stalker, but it did make the Walker feel a sense of pious justification inside his trembling gut.

This will be an ongoing series chronicling a couple years' worth of encounters with bizarre, horrific, and taunting interplay between one innocent citizen and a stalker that defies description (at least in our known world).
This was an exceptionally well-documented series of events that may at times be too graphic or horrifying for some readers, but it is our hope that by sharing this experience, someone out there might recognize a set of circumstances that are similar.
We have advice to be given to anyone encountering what I am at a lack of words to accurately describe, so henceforth refer to it as…the stalker between the worlds. **Links to prior installments are at the bottom of this post**
"Get Out!"
We will begin this installment with an incident the Walker wishes to share that happened a little over a year or so ago. In retrospect, he thinks it might significant -
The Walker and his wife were riding down the rural highway on their way home, just about there, and as the sun was setting, it shone on something on the highway ahead.
The Walker studied something large spread eagle, arms and legs extended outward (imagine Wylie Coyote when he fell off a cliff and hit the ground - legs spread). It was laid out, not like a four-legged creature would, but like a human. By the look of the buzzards on the lonely roadway, it was covering some kind of carcass with its body, perhaps fighting for the roadkill.
Whatever it was startled, looked up and the Walker's eyes widened when he realized it had a snout. A tall snout, but narrow and long. It leaped up, turned and hightailed it up the embankment to the forest with barely a few leaps on all four, launching itself. The hair was long and sort of stiff, moving en masse as it leaped. It was either fiery red hair or the setting sun was distorting the color. Being a country boy, the Walker knew this was no bear. Not even close. And as he passed by the carcass in the roadway, he realized it was a deer and that "thing" covered it easily. It was massive! He studied his rear view mirror thinking about how close it was to his neighborhood, less than a mile!
***
As the Walker took his daily constitutional along his rural roadways, he contemplated the strange creature that had bolted into the woods a year ago, not far from his neighborhood, and then recalled the three-toed prints he had found along his walk. The Walker wasn't sure why he was recalling something that happened over a year ago, except that "thing" on the roadway unnerved him greatly and remained in the back of his mind as a loathsome creature capable of the actions in his rural southern neighborhood.
He frowned as he passed a bend in the road and contemplated the ground while he pondered signs of the Son-of-a-bitch as he had come to think of the "Stalker." It had to have hands. It tied up the dogs with duct tape rigged leashes. It carried the baby boars by their tails, it yanked rabbits' heads off easily....
But what the hell was that thing he saw up on the highway? He still couldn't think of a creature with those sorts of attributes. At least nothing he learned about in school or saw in the wilds of the hills and bayous of his home state.
When he began to approach the trailer, the Walker slowed down. That piece of land was cursed. It was right smack dab in the middle of the weird vortex. Next door, a prior trailer years ago sped out during the night and never looked back. Then, this plot of land had a fence put up and some horses grazing. Then, the horses were taken out, and now a trailer with some folks living in it had planted itself there on that cursed ground. They even had just hooked up water and sewage. But, just before the turn of the new year, they raced out at night, came back at the new year and got their belongings. And the mailbox had been knocked down. Not just knocked down, but crumpled too.
Before they left, the folks had shored the mailbox back up.
The Walker shook his head. The mailbox was down again!
There was no sign the folks planned to come back again. And they had spent all that money on a trailer and hookups!
Of course, the Walker could have told them that was not a good place to try and live, at least not in peace.
*
The Walker stopped on his walk one day soon after the last mailbox spill, and studied some odd tracks that bounded up the embankment near where the headless rabbit had been left on a winter 2014 solstice. The tracks were odd and interesting. When he went up the embankment, he found two of them side by side. It looked kind of like toes, but then it wasn't long, yet deep as if very heavy. Whatever it was seemed like it leaped up the embankment with a couple prints very far apart and then landed on the balls of its feet at the top to launch into the woods?
He stood on the embankment and stared into the distance. The Walker, always trying to be a reasonably logical man, had to sort through his mind what he was dealing with. He started down a list in the back of his mind - Serial killer in the making? Well, the serial killer would be pretty peculiar. He'd have to be fine with killing things, nasty killings. Sure, any really hardcore serial killer could do that. But, what about using things from nearby instead of things from home, like the duct tape leashes on the dogs? What about coming into the Walker's shed and stealing the magnet without taking anything else? Or messing with the dog kennel and the dog food bowl? What was up with that? Serial killers didn't generally tinker or even try to show their kills and then take them away once they were seen to be replaced by bones. If there was a killer in their midst, he had killed only things that might harm the citizens like snakes, wild boars and stray dogs.
Bigfoot? From what the Walker learned of Bigfoot, what this fellow was doing was a bit off the usual. Bigfoot don't generally kill and not eat. They also don't try to make interactions with one person. They aren't particularly harmful to dogs. In fact, some accounts had them taking in strays and running with them. It was possible it was some kind of rogue with no "clan," but what about the snout on the thing on the highway? Was it the same thing tormenting his area or something altogether different? Dogman? This concept could make the Walker chuckle nervously. A dogman! That was a thing of legends. But, sometimes legends had a way of being buried with truth, like the Natives talking about the great apes in Africa and then finally find they were true. What kind of freak of nature could create a man-walking, snouted, hair-covered dogman? From what the Walker read of dogman, they didn't like people, were not social. In fact, they were downright misanthropic to the extreme, if not aggressive. Some of the three-toed tracks might make sense and the thing on the highway sure could make sense, but the Walker balked at the idea that something so preposterous could exist or even want to make contact with humans.
Skinwalker? From what the Walker could gather straining his eyes late at night on the Internet, he found the skinwalker legends of Native Americans. The skinwalker was said to be a person with magical powers who could shift their shape into whatever suited their means. That concept gave the Walker a bit of a shiver. After all, this thing sometimes seemed human-like, other times dog-like.... And then, there were the howls. He and his wife both had heard the strange painful cries from the woods near the highway. What kind of creature made that sound? He'd lived there his whole life and never heard such sounds, not even a little bit similar to anything he knew.
Then the Walker thought some more of his childhood and the legends. The South had talk of the Rougarou. Described as being basically a werewolf man, so far as the Walker knew of it, it was a legend to make children behave. Still, as he studied the forests around him, suddenly his childhood stomping grounds seemed to hold ancient secrets and not of the Native American kind, but of something much older, something that believed, it owned the land....
*
The Walker watched as the hunters retreated from the forest. It was the hunting season, so a usual expected sight, but not what came next. They hustled around excitedly, grabbed some flashlights, went back into the woods.
The Walker stopped and watched from a distance. It was getting dim out, but he could see plenty well enough to see their lights as they came back out of the forest. The group talked among themselves and then reentered the dark forest without their flashlights this time.
The Walker squinted and thought about it. Why go get lights, go back in, and then come back, decide not to take lights and go into the fast darkening trees? The group came out again, climbed into their vehicles and took off.
And, even though it still was still hunting season, they didn't come back.
*
Just when he thought his walk was uneventful the next day and he was relaxed, the Walker came up to his back door at the kitchen and turned the knob to find it locked. The sliding latch inside had been slid closed after he left.
He pounded on the door until his wife emerged from the front of the house and slid it open for him.
"Whatcha lock me out for?" He asked.
"I didn't lock it. I just got out of the bath. I haven't been in the kitchen this morning, yet."
The Walker turned and studied the latch, sliding it open and closed. It was not an easy process, a simple shaking door would not slide it closed. A pit formed in his belly....
*
A few weeks after the folks moved out of the trailer, some new people moved in. The Walker shook his head. Oh, this was not going to end well....
Today, James Carroll and I will discuss the ongoing mystery of the series on here called "Stalker Between the Worlds." This series on GHT has involved a real-life man in a rural area in the South who takes a daily constitutional walk on his country roads he has known all his life. On these walks, he has run into some extraordinary and unexplained things that are both graphic and taunting and upon occasion, too close to home. Me: I thought it was unusual how, at first, this Stalker was leaving intact spines without ribs - one potential possum spine and then 5 snake spines all articulated. Could be turkey vultures or other predator?
Seemed to leave everything in one particular area- near a quarry road that they had just reopened after decades of having it closed. Someone had pulled the quarry sign out of the ground too. But, when it left the two baby boars, I really sat up and took notice. It's the way it did it. It carried them by tail down the roadway and it's as if the dead baby boars fell off their tails. It dropped the tails in the road and then kept walking with them to the "hot spot" and tossed them. They were cut open and their guts strung from the bushes as they landed. But, it made no effort to eat them. Just tossed them there.... You gotta think anything that can carry them by their tails and toss them has to be using two hands, huh?
(pig tails)
Jim: Think maybe it was done as a warning to not reopen the quarry? The events seem to be related. Me: Yeah, I could see that, but I have to wonder. If you wanted to warn someone about the quarry, you'd toss these maybe on the quarry road, not on the main roadway the quarry road feeds off of. Jim:A "do not cross" maybe? Sharon: Well, it got a bit weirder after that. The boars were "removed" and then a deer skull and some rib bones were left nearby. They had a back and forth for some time, rearranging the bones for each other, the Walker and the Stalker. There seems to be, over the years, a pattern of leaving a body and once the Walker sees it, it is removed and replaced with bones. Jim: Maybe the reason why changed. Developing a relationship? Sharon: Yeah, interesting. So, we're talking about something intelligent? Jim: In a way yes but more primitive by our standards. It appears to be a visual or nonverbal type of communication.
Sharon: Yeah, seriously primitive. There was a period of time when it was strangling and killing dogs, leaving them with makeshift duct tape leashes and then replacing a dead dog with a pile of bones the next day. I think it was around that time the Walker was getting more than concerned for the strays in the area. Three neighbor dogs came back from the woods with an eye popped out but no other injuries. You would have to strangle them for that to happen with no injuries to the eye other than it dangling. Jim:Did it see the dog as a threat to Walker or as a simple communication? Me: Here's the thing. I have always believed it is killing threats to the Walker and even the Walker's dog that he sometimes takes on his daily walk. It killed 5 snakes, leaving their spines lined up. It killed stray dogs. It killed wild hogs. But, the Walker seems to think that kind of wild hog came from the swamp lands some miles away from his hill country. Jim: Offering from hunting ground??? Me: Hmm. We wondered because the hares that had their heads torn off were another swampland variety. Jim: Would you eat the head?
Me: I wondered about the heads. It always takes them as if it keeps the skulls. Jim: Trophies or Totems. Me: Now we're into "Predator" movie plot. There was a time that I had to wonder if this was a serial killer in the making. But they don't usually display their animal kills. And this guy seems to handle rotted and nasty carcasses, as well as utilizing items found. If he lived locally, he could use items from home, but this guy made the rope for the dog leashes out of duct tape that the Walker found in a trash can near an abandoned trailer. Jim:A lot of cultures and animals keep totems or trophies of sorts. Me: So, we are heading into intelligent human or human-like.... Jim: Humanoid probably. Me: So, we have something/someone who lives ferally, kills but doesn't eat what it kills, leaves it out for another to find. As soon as the Walker sees it, it is removed. Sometimes it is replaced with bones. Then, there's the incidents at his house....
It had stolen the dog crate and took it to the woods. He brought it back and set it down with talc everywhere. It moved it again - no prints. It broken into his shop and stole only the huge industrial magnet that holds the door open - about 7 feet up on the wall. Left the tools.
Jim: We don't know that it doesn't eat stuff it kills. We do know it shares some of the stuff. If you eat a a carcass you would have bones left. Maybe it is trying to ask if Walker ate the offering and liked it.
Me: Never thought of it trying to make an offering. Interesting concept. It did leave a headless hare at his back door.
Jim: Maybe it was intrigued by the magnet and wanted to play with it. Tools would be just another piece of shines stuff.
Me: There is also the issue of the game cam. The Walker left one out and he got the dog bone carcass turning 180 degrees at the time the camera was set up, but all he got was cars triggering it or this shadow.
Jim: Maybe Stalker was beside the camera with the light to its back. Some cams can be triggered by things to either side.
Me: Nope. He got shots of himself walking to and from, but these clicked off when he was away from the area and back home.
Jim: Yes, but you would need to know the reaction speed of the camera to stimulus and how fast it resets itself from frame to frame.
Me: He captured the cars going by and a female jogger on the other side of the road.
Jim: Yes, but how fast does the cam react? If you are close to it you only need to move a very short distance to get passed the sensors. If you are several feet it takes a while to get past the sensor.
Me: I had wondered if a bird or perhaps a person behind the camera could cast the shadow - but look at the length of that thing. It's very odd.
Jim: Time of day, clearness of sky, pole direction all play a part. Including position of shadow producer in relation to lens.
Me: That evidence is hard to quantify, but then there's the 3-toed tracks....
Jim: Big tracks.
Me: It took us down the rabbit hole of possible dogman. So far culprits - explainable and very odd animal behavior for some of the things (some like tying duct tape on a dog's neck not accounted for), or human with some serious issues (though they would have to be living ferally), Bigfoot (odd behavior for one) or dogman (not a social creature). The only other realm is extraordinary - other dimensional.
Jim: Quite possible. Possible Reptoid Humanoid? Possible Reptoidal Humanoid???
Me: Interesting concept if you consider the quarry. What do you have on your list of possibilities? Jim: Crazy person living in the woods or Dogman, Loup Garou. Me: I started out Bigfoot, then crazy person in the woods, later moved into interdimensional Bigfoot concept (short time there), then went into Dogman, came back out the other side as Bigfoot once again. It's perhaps the oddest Bigfoot ever, but some of the shows of strength strangling the dog and carrying the hogs and tossing them and possibly choking the dogs until their eyes popped out, and unidentified cries from the woods makes me lean that way. Plus, it seems territorial about that particular area, but also seeking some interaction of a kind. All I know is that the Walkers the roadway, but he also walks a fine line, being watchful but also not getting this Stalker excited for interaction.
*Warning: Photographs and information in this ongoing series might be upsetting to some readers. Discretion advised.*
Claiming Territory
The Walker's mind was on the summer sunshine and the fluttering of butterflies as he disrupted their solitude on the lonely rural roadway. He picked up his speed as he passed the driveway of the once abandoned home where so much of the activity of IT was associated. A family had finally moved in after years of it sitting empty and he couldn't help wonder how long they would stay. Years ago, a man in a trailer lived on the property and he up and left in the middle of the night in a frenzy.
The Walker stopped when he feared stepping on something. He bent over to study the oddity only to realize, to his horror, he was looking at a bone with flesh. He studied it, likening what he saw to a finger, but trying not to jump to conclusions because of its jointed qualities. There was no blood nearby to show that this piece of a living creature was killed there or removed of this part of its body on the site. The Walker stood up, looked around, clicked off a picture, but couldn't help feeling he had encountered a body part of something more human. He hastened his walk, but later had to come back and look at it, perhaps turn it over to conclude what it was. But, when he came back later on, it was gone. He chalked it up to rural life and scavengers and felt there was no need to go to an extraordinary conclusion.
In fact, he was proud at his ability to assimilate the oddities he ran across and not incite his fear reflex.

On a hot and humid day, the Walker sprinted through the "weird vortex" as he had come to refer to the site of the offerings and killings. There alongside the road was an armadillo shell and the bones were scattered across the roadway like a gambler's dice on a felt board. Of course, a car could have hit it. Then, scavengers had their way with it, especially the blasted vultures that were always scoping the street. He continued on, pumped up and proud of his ability to justify the findings.
In the field where the horses with the braided manes had been penned in, there was an RV. Some guy had parked it there. Why, the Walker wasn't sure, but it was doubtful he'd stay long unless he was fine with being smack dab in the middle of the weird vortex.

Mid summer came and the Walker was caught up in a honey to-do list and a lot of commitments to others such that he wasn't concerning himself with anything but the upcoming duties. When he was gone all day and came home, he rounded the house to get to the back when he stopped short at the side door of his home. On the ground lay a dead rabbit carcass, head torn away and nowhere in sight. There was also no blood anywhere. It was killed and brought there and left. The Walker flashed his mind back to the other headless bloodless rabbit he had seen on the winter solstice in the weird vortex. The head had been torn off and the front leg, but the leg was discarded with the body, the head taken. And, once again, no blood on the site.
Now, the Walker's radar was reengaging. His head lifted and he studied the woods around the property, wondering if IT was watching, hoping for a reaction. With disgust he picked up the carcass, walked out to the roadway and tossed it into the gully on the far side. And it better not end up at my doorway!

It wasn't much longer after that the hummingbird feeder on the porch was, once again, tampered with. This time, something had shaken all the fluid out of it all over the porch. The Walker took the hose out to clean it up and keep the ants away, but all the while his eyes studied the summertime thicket, wondering what might be lurking in the brambles. And what the heck did it always have against the feeder?

The Walker had spied some strays again in the area. He worried for them. They always came out from the roadway to the quarry in the weird vortex and retreated back to that spot when they were done barking at cars on the street. Today, the Walker slowed down to try to coax a little stray to come to him. The little fellow kept moving along, stopping to look back at the Walker and then continuing on. The Walker was getting his workout this morning chasing the little booger, but he was determined to save its life, even if it didn't want that. The Walker stopped at the end of the quarry road where the little scamp was about to retreat to the woods near the quarry. "Come on, fella." He squatted down and held out his hand, coaxing the little scruffy pup to come. And, after much coaxing, the Walker got to pet the little dog and bring her home for a good washing and hopefully a safer home. Within days, a neighbor wrangled up another little pup and the two of them managed to find good homes for them. As good as the Walker felt about saving two dogs' lives, he couldn't help wondering how many other dogs were down at that quarry area, destined to be killed, or the neighbors who had recently had dogs go missing....

The Walker stopped along the roadway, pulled out his cell phone and began to record a strange buzzing. He had heard this sound before and knew it was sometimes associated with areas where Bigfoot were. From what he understood, these Tall Beings could imitate all kinds of sounds, but buzzing? This was very odd and unsettling.
The Walker shared with the blogger in hopes that people might recognize a situation and offer either advice or perhaps just help him understand what was happening and how to proceed. He knew he couldn't be the only one caught in some kind of back and forth with an unidentifiable foe. As he took to his route, the Walker called up the blogger on the phone to discuss recent happenings. Mid sentence and directly in the weird vortex, he smelled something. "Wait a second." He told the blogger. The stench of death was overwhelming and in the 95% humidity of August it was degrading fast, whatever it was. "Let me see if I can find the source of this stink." He warned the blogger as he leaned over and peered down the gully. "Holy!" He howled. "It's a dead dog. Looks to be folded up like a piece of paper and tossed into the ravine. It's a big dog. How could someone do that?" The blogger commented. "Could it have been hit by a car?" "Nope, not this distance. No way. Someone tossed it down there. I hope it's not my neighbor's missing dog." He remarked. "It's teeth are exposed in that snarl like the other big dog that was killed." "Any footprints?" The blogger asked. The Walker straightened up and looked around. "Oh yeah, got some prints. Looks like it came out of the woods, did the deed, walked across the road and slid on the embankment...." The Walker crossed the road and looked at the barbed wire fence. "Stuck a feather upright in the fencing as it left. This is in that weird vortex near the quarry road. Wow, this had no shoes on." The Walker took photos and immediately began to send them to the blogger.
"Three toes again. Not super big, just bigger than my size 12 foot. Looks like it slid a bit climbing the embankment." The Walker told the blogger as he began to send more photos.
"Hey, look at the sliding foot shot with the toes." The blogger announced. "Just to the right of it, it stuck its hand into the hill to help hoist itself. There's finger holes." The blogger studied the next shot, a side view of the print.
The Walker described the situation. "I'm gonna send you a photo of a print. I'll put in an arrow so you can see. It stepped off the roadway, took this step, and next step was on the embankment. That was a helluva stride!" His voice was a bit breathy and amazed. "I don't think I've seen such good prints before."
The blogger pulled up past print photos to compare.
The print left near the dead mouse
a track a few years ago
print in the talc
Three-toed track earlier in the year
cast from three-toed track
(toes at bottom of pic)
The Walker stopped at the fencing and took photos of the feather.
"Ah, this was purposeful, no accident."
"Where is the fence?" The blogger asked.
"Near the quarry drive." The Walker replied as he sent off the photos.
Determined not to be intimidated and to continue his schedule, the Walker hit the pavement the next day on his daily constitutional. And, as he passed the fence where the feather was poised the day before, he had to do a double take. The Stalker had left another feather. Oh yes, it was marking its territory in the weird vortex.
*Just as the story was about to be published on here - something happened a couple days ago on Monday
*
The Walker hit the pavement in the super humid middle of summer heat in the South. The trees gave good shade as he moved briskly up the lane. He contemplated the dead dog. It seemed the Stalker didn't like male dogs. Male dogs in rural areas could be curious, follow scents into the woods, even be confrontational. He recalled the time the dogs had something cornered near the creek and were going nuts, some of them covered in blood. Just as the Walker reached the weird vortex, his eyes glanced around at the spots where things were always happening. One of the spots was where the shoelace had been left and he and the Stalker had moved it back and forth. The last time the Walker decided to go and tie it to the pipe. It had remained there, until this day. The Walker slowed down and looked around. The lace was gone. Nope, it wasn't gone. It was on the ground now.
The Walker noted a knot. How could it come down off the pipe without being untied? He unfolded it to find that it had been torn off the pipe and rendered into two strands and the Stalker had retied it. With a double knot. The same calling card it used when it created a duct tape ligature to strangle the dog....
He pondered why it would retie the shoelace and leave it on the ground. Why not just tear it down and leave the pieces? He frowned, but against his better judgment unfolded it and wrapped it around the pipe this time to see what it would do next.
The Walker then picked up his pace out of the weird vortex and onto the quiet open roadway. He left the ball in the Stalker's court. It was time to think about ways to differentiate what exactly he was dealing with. It was definitely strong. It had no issues with killing. It didn't eat what it killed. It hated hummingbird feeders. It seemed to dislike stray male dogs a lot. And it could tie a knot....
