It was in September 1903 in Van Meter, Iowa when over a few days, people began reporting seeing something terrifying.
They reported a bat-like creature with a human shape with wings and a light that emanated from a horn on ist head. This sent the town into a frenzy of terror.
The first to report sighting it was a businessman who saw it atop a building. Soon after, many people reported seeing it flying at high rates of speed. Folks tried shooting it and missed it. Some came to the conclusion mining had released something from underground.
Sightings came sporadically over the decades. Then in 2020, it was reported near Boone, Iowa. Trying to explain it, they wrote it off as a giant bird.
The description could be compared with the Jersey Devil and Mothman. Luckily,we live in a world now where nearly everyone carries a camera, aka cellphone and these things can be documented more and more.
What was the Van Meter Monster? No real answers exist, but if it still lives now, it's one of a lineage of breeders....
