The Best of Halloween Home Yard Haunts!

I used to enjoy at Christmastime when local papers and sources listed homes that were magnificently decorated. Then, over the decades, Halloween became a holiday we decorate and, oh boy, did all us closet horror fans have a blast! Today, they list the best houses decorated for Halloween, Spirit Halloween stores show up on every corner, and Haunted House attractions are more popular than roadside carnivals! Let's look at some of the magnificence that is Yard Haunts!

Tips for design

Picking a theme and working with it makes a most enchanting design. If you decide on spiders - go spiders!

Gigantic always intimidates and amazes. Sure, we're adults now, but having displays that are so huge reminds us of being small vulnerable kids.

Lighting matters, whether it's lightning flashes, nuclear hazard green, foggy blue, or angry red.

Holographics in windows can create a house that holds many terrifying secrets. The same works with cutouts in the windows and back lighting.

Don't neglect the classic Halloween decor - dried corn stalks, pumpkins, hay bales, scarecrows. Something about the farmhouse country vibes works every time.

You don't have to spend a ton to do a really amazing yard. I took cardboard and cut it into board shapes and painted them to look like wood and adhered them in criss cross shapes across the windows and door with a no trespassing sign and dead corn stalks to look like an abandoned house.

Happy yard haunt!
