Outdoor Movies - Best Horror Movies for Backyard Projection

There is nothing better on a cool autumn night than sitting outdoors in a comfy chair and watching a movie with a blanket across your lap. There is no better film to watch in the dark outdoors than movies that make you study the darkness around you as it seems as if they could come to life in your own backyard.

Here's some great films to watch projected on a chilly evening -

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
Black and white zombie movie - a lonely farmhouse, undead closing in, and strangers try to stave them off. A nighttime isolated vibe.

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
College students head into the woods of Maryland to do a documentary on a legend of an evil witch. They run into more than they imagined in the woods, something evil, trapping them. A very autumnal, outdoorsy, camping vibe.

THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK
Documentary with reenactments of a Bigfoot in the Deep South. A stalker in the woods vibe.

FRIDAY THE 13TH
Counselors show up to get ready for summer camp kids to arrive, only they find that in the isolated forest near the beautiful Crystal Lake, there is a killer. This has a isolated forest vibe.

THE FINAL TERROR
Many stars in this one, this film went under the radar, but it's an excellent example of stalker in the woods. A bunch of young adults go to volunteer work at a forest stream only to encounter a killer in the woods. This one has a great camping out, stalker vibe.

DAY OF THE ANIMALS
This made-for-tv movie with big-named stars involves a hiking and camping event in the mountains at the same time as the ozone layer thins and the animals begin to attack. This one has a hiking/camping/killer animal vibe.

There are tons of great films to project at night, but I admit that these ones above are my favorites as they give you that campfire tales, afraid to have your back to the darkness feeling.

If you have children, you might consider films like "Harry and the Hendersons," or "Watcher in the Woods" (circa 1970s)

Enjoy!
