Creepy Vintage and Horror Photos and Taking a Halloween Selfie

The shadows grow long, autumn advances in her goal of driving us toward the darkness. And so, some creepy photos, especially vintage ones, take on a gothic horror vibe. Enjoy!

Consider making your own vintage-looking and horror creepy photos. The key is to put the viewer in the middle of some setting that begs the question, "what is happening here?"

Here's some I've done -

Dolls -

(below) I put some spooky images up on the tv screen and shot the photos through a mason jar -

(below) tin foil over my face and a hooded cape.

(below) a mask on your face, reflected in a window or water. Consider doing black and white conversions for a real retro vibe.

(below) A carved dried apple head.

Other ideas - abandoned buildings, cemeteries at sunset, shadows, creepy dolls, burlap bag masks, farm implements, barns....

Consider making a scary Halloween profile pic -

The one above is just me screaming from behind a chair.

How about something gothic? Black background, holding candles -

Candlelight or backlighting both create super creepiness. Some of the coolest shots I've done were when I placed a friend inside a room, taped clear plastic drop cloth in the doorway, put a lamp on the floor behind the friend with no lampshade on it so it was bright. I had the friend press their screaming face against the plastic.

Try going with all black so that your face is the only thing that shows up -

Move back and forth quickly as you take the photo for a blurring effect -

Put on your Halloween makeup and take on the attitude of the character -

Interact with a character on the television (pause the screen)

Imitate a favorite thriller/horror character -

A shadow picture taken at sunset works great. Be sure the shadow casts on something spooky - an abandoned building, a grave, a gnarly tree, a carnival, a corn maze, a scarecrow -

Here's some props that might help -

Nothing says creepy like an old ornate frame to draw the eye to the vintage pic -
