John Wolfe Memorial

I have been very blessed to know some amazing bloggers, but one who was very dear to my heart was my good friend, John Wolfe. He ran the blog Season of Shadows and embodied all things vintage and true Halloween. He would begin early in the year designing elaborate home haunts and sharing on video how he went about designing them. He did lots of volunteer work and was always available for anyone. He sought to understand the spiritual and the other side. In fact, as he was dying, he said he would contact me through EVPs. And, he asked me to write his memorial which I did and he read it and approved of it before his passing at much too early an age in his 30s. Each Halloween (since 2012), I have posted his memorial here. Halloween is his season, his paradise, and I miss him something awful every October. I'd like to share him with you now -

The Jeepers Creepers Truck

I knew I couldn't be the only one obsessed with dreaming of having the Creeper Truck. There is actually an awesome website devoted to it!  The Creeper Truck dot com

Doll Island Halloween Theme

Doll Island in Mexico. It's one of the most spooky-looking places that gives chills and thrills. There's something about dolls that inherently fascinates and bothers us. Use that to your advantage -

What to do With Candy Corn

Candy corn, you love it or you hate it. Some of us feel compelled to get it every October and then bite into a few and go, "okay, I've had enough!" Then, they continue the season as a decorative dish item and desperate movie time candy when one runs out of the first choice. I plan to show the many candy corn inspired possibilities for the season -

Horror Film Locations

You ever wonder about locations of horror movies and if they were a set, if the buildings are gone, or if you can drive by and take a pic? Well, here's just some of the biggies that still exist -

Ohio's Creepiest Abandoned Town: Helltown

A perfectly once-pleasant town called Boston, Ohio had no idea what its future held. Today, the abandoned area is referred to as "Helltown" and with good reason!

Worldwide Gateways to Hell

One of the worst curses locals could put on a location is to call it the gateway to hell. Here's just some locations around the world that earned the moniker -

Rural-Themed Horror Movies

There's something remote, bleak, and spooky about farms and countryside. Perhaps it's being cut off from civilization or maybe because the land is old and haunted. Maybe it's those who want to hide from the world might be lurking there. Generations of horror add up in a family homestead. The plows tilling the earth dig up secrets. Here's some of my faves -

Traditional Jack O'Lanterns are the Best!

The fine art of hollowing out a pumpkin, carving a face, and lighting a candle to go inside has become a competition yearly among the most artistic, but still the only thing that truly unsettles are the jagged-toothed ones of our youth.

Gigantic Halloween Props

12-foot skeleton

I noticed at Spirit Halloween store that they embraced the gigantic animatronics even more than the previous year. The previous year, local stores mentioned that the gigantic clown sold the first day they were open and they needed more.

Does size matter when it comes to Halloween figures?

Carnival-Themed Horror Movies

Creepy clowns and carnivals make for some disturbing horror. There's something about what should be innocent childhood fun turned evil that gives everyone the shivers. Pop some popcorn, deep fry some Oreos, light up string lights around the room, and enjoy the theme -

100 Things to do in October

The magical month is here! Hopefully, summer shut itself away enough to enjoy chilly mornings and maybe even the scent of nighttime woodsmoke. Looking for things to do? October might be one of the most outdoor-oriented months of all and it's not just Halloween!
