Review: "Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch" Episode "Detonation Threat"

Tonight's episode was entitled, "Detonation Threat." The "armory" where they found the arrowheads and muskets is the area of interest. The team decides to drill there. They run into something that could explode the ranch. This doesn't stop Duane from continuing to seek the treasure.

The episode opened with a review of how they found the "amory" where an ancient battle occurred between potentially Aztec's and outsiders with muskets. James and Chad brought out ground-penetrating radar to look at the armory underground.

They looked for an opening in a shelf of rocks that showed promise. Chad found an opening that had air coming out. Chad pulled out one of their blind frogs. It was still wet. The frog had come from the underground water-filled cavern system.

They decide to drop a camera down the hole. They found it was a natural fissure. They ran into more of the blind frogs.

The team decided to use a drill and punch down into the cavern. They planned to look at bore samples to see if they have hit liquid. If this worked, they would widen it to allow Chad down inside. At 50 feet, they hit something. They decided to pull it up and check the sample. Suddenly, flames came from the bore hole.

THe core samples were sent to Eric to look at. It appeared to be a coal seam and it could be explosive. Eric decides to consult the team and Duane and see how combustible this soil is. Eric put some of the dark soil on the ground and lit it and it burned.

Eric thinks that it was very little coal and they may still be able to enter at the armory. Duane wants to get past the coal seam and they have the equipment there and ready to go. They decide to move the drilling unit 20 feet and try again, hoping to miss the coal seam.

As they drilled the new hole, they found coal, but it was only a bit. As they drilled more, they hit water. They figured they hit through the cavern to the water. They plan to pull out a rathole rig and drill a larger hole that would allow for Chad to be lowered with scuba gear. They tested the water from the hole and it was the same as the pond.

Josh suggested they save money by pumping the pond and drain it and use that as the entrance. Duane agrees it would put them closer the keyhole chamber.  The team needs to dig out a catchment pond area for the water being pumped out.

Quite concerning, when Duane was done digging the alternate pond and compacting the dam, he had serious pain in his shoulder, was in distress. They took him off to be seen in the ER.

Duane is one tough hombre. I am certain he is well now, as this was filmed earlier, but I continue to have him in my prayers because having a mission keeps a person going, even when they are exhausted.
