Halloweenitis

I know, I know, summer has over a month left, but y'all know that Halloween lovers are only surviving the humidity and sunshine to get to the part where colorful leaves form and fall, chimney smoke punctuates the air, and horror movies are repeatedly playing.

If you dream it, it will come!

There's subtle ways to transition to OUR season even though it's perpetually perky outside. Here's some ideas -

*Book a room at a B&B or Airbnb for late September or into October time frame in a location that is going to showcase the colors like a small town in the Northeast or a forest land in high elevation country.

*Start using candles at night. Find some scents that aren't terribly sweet like pumpkin, but smell of the outdoors.

*Instead of grilling your supper, consider pulling out the crock pot and making some homemade chili

*Marathon an enthralling amazingly well-done horror series like this -

*Start closing the blinds/curtains around 6 pm to make your days shorter.

*Take a bath with a woodsy masculine scented bath salt.

*Pick up a beer that tastes like fall - pumpkin, dark lager, porter, red.

*Start a Halloween decor project or better yet, hit the outdoors to get some items to make some decor - bark, dried flowers, dried grasses, dead limbs, driftwood, pine cones, etc.

*Make an iced chai drink.

*Go ahead, do it! Put on your favorite horror movies.

*Camp in the deepest darkest woods and tell scary stories around the campfire.

*Rent a room in a haunted B&B.

*Take a city ghost tour.

Your transition could be as simple as folding a lap blanket over the arm of the sofa, or cutting down on the sunlight in the house, chilling the air a bit more, or wearing autumn earthy colors.

No matter how you nudge your way into autumn, follow your needs. I put up my Halloween decor on my birthday in mid September. It's a gift to myself.

Enjoy your pre-autumn.
