Michael's Store
I had a good time with my bestie, checking out what Halloween items are up at the stores. I thought I'd share. I found a few very refreshing things at Michael's, surprises at Spirit Halloween, and utter shock at Lowe's and Home Depot!
MICHAEL'S
Michael's had the best Day of the Dead themed items I've seen. They blew me away with the all-white items with ghost and witch themes. They were very haunting, very classic, very classy. I even bought a few items for my "haunted house" Victorian all-white theme in my home.
I had to buy this hand with ghostly mirror - it's on my writing desk as I work on a horror screenplay.
JOANN STORE
Joann had plenty of skeletons and skulls, a lot of glittery disco crap, and a good deal of witch-related fun.
LOWE'S
The most utterly shocking thing for me at Lowe's and Home Depot both was that the animatronics were considerably less than ever before. The largest items were $399, but many were in the 100s and 200s. Even HUGE stuff.
I would love to put the sea captain in my home office in the corner.
HOME DEPOT
There were really amazing animatronics here at really great prices like Lowe's.
Nosferatu is my favorite!
SPIRIT HALLOWEEN
Spirit Halloween's theme this year is "Carnevil."
They absolutely embraced the carnival theme with sideshow imagery, clowns, freaks, and the like. I admit that, if I wanted to get animatronics that are amazing and large and cheap, but really beautifully done, I'd go to Lowe's or Home Depot.
In general, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm absolutely IN LOVE with what Michael's had to offer for decor. The section of white ghostly and witch imagery was artistic, romantic, and such a relief from the usual plasticy colorful, and halfhazard shelf offerings. I hope to do my home in an all-white ghostly theme with Victorian vibes. The wall art of witches was mesmerizing, as well.
The animatronics at the big box home goods stores, i.e. Lowe's and Home Depot were THE place to purchase.
Perhaps my only big criticism is Spirit Halloween hanging onto zombie and clown crap. It's become a rather numbing thing, without no real power to spook. I'd love to see them display holographic video onto cloth and show how that can be utilized in a home - rather like Haunted Mansion vibe at Disneyland. I'd love to see them do a haunted theme one year and perhaps a cryptid/Bigfoot one another year (Mothman, Bigfoot, Yeti, Dogman, Jersey Devil, etc)
