Road Trip-Themed Horror Movies

  

A fun movie marathon for summer travelers, the road trip horror genre. Other than prices at the gas station, restaurant, and hotel, there's plenty else to frighten you. Here's just some of the fun offerings - 

The Hitcher

1986. Rutger Hauer. C. Thomas Howell. A young man who escapes the clutches of a murderous hitchhiker is subsequently stalked by the hitcher and framed for his crimes.

Hitchhike

1974. Cloris Leachman. A Los Angeles woman, on her way to visit her sister in San Fransisco, picks up a hitchhiker who has just killed his stepmother. Charmed by him, she fails to notice his strange behavior until it is too late.

Road Games

1981. Jamie Lee Curtis. Stacy Keach. A laid-back American truck driver in south Australia starts to suspect a man driving a green van of killing young women along his route, and proceeds to play a cat-and-mouse game in order to catch him red-handed.

Night Drive

1977.  Valerie Harper. A housewife is stalked by a psycho after she sees him murder a highway patrol officer.

Wind Chill

2007. Emily Blunt.  Two college students share a ride home for the holidays, but when they break down on a deserted stretch of road, they are preyed upon by the ghosts of people who have died there.

Joy Ride

2001. Steve Zahn. Paul Walker. Three young people on a road trip from Colorado to New Jersey talk to a trucker on their CB radio, then must escape when he turns out to be a psychopathic killer.

The Hills Have Eyes

1977. On the way to California, a family has the misfortune to have their car break down in an area closed to the public, and inhabited by violent savages ready to attack.

Wrong Turn

2003.  Chris and a group of five friends are left stranded deep in the middle of the woods after their cars collide. As they venture deeper into the woods, they face an uncertain and bloodcurdling fate.

Tourist Trap 

1979. Chuck Connors. A group of young friends stranded at a secluded roadside museum are stalked by a masked assailant who uses his telekinetic powers to control the attraction's mannequins.

Duel

1971. Dennis Weaver. A business commuter is pursued and terrorized by the malevolent driver of a massive tractor-trailer.

House of Wax

2005.  A group of teens are unwittingly stranded near a strange wax museum and soon must fight to survive and keep from becoming the next exhibit.

Children of the Corn

1984. Linda Hamilton. A young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believes that everyone over age 18 must be killed.

Breakdown

1997. Kurt Russell. A man searches for his missing wife after his car breaks down in the middle of the desert.
