Cahokia Giant

*This post is brought to us by researcher, author, and artist David Clearr. He is one of my favored researchers and go-to's especially for the ancient giant and Bigfoot cultures.

First, here is a disclaimer – the official position of the administration of Cahokia Mounds states that no giant skeletons have been excavated from the site.

However, here is an interesting tale, true or imaginary, that bears more investigation.

The Narrator relates:

“ Somewhere between 1965 or 1967, I was on a family vacation, Our family of seven was touring parks and cultural sites in the American Midwest. One of the places we visited was the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, which is the site of a pre-Columbian Native American city.”

(Note: It existed c. 1050–1350 CE.) situated across the Mississippi River from modern St. Louis, Missouri. The mounds are the larges prehistoric earthen construction in the Americas north of Mexico consisting of 80 man-made mounds. The park covers 2,200 acres (890 ha), or about 3.5 square miles (9 km2), It is a National Historic Landmark and one of the 24 UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the United States.)

“ My father was a member of a paleontological association, sporadically active as a volunteer on some digs and excavations. I, as well as some of my siblings went on some of these digs, mainly in Michigan. My father had heard about the new excavations at Cahokia, which had recently begun on a ridge-like mound off to the side of the main mound complex.

”The enormous main mounds on the site were very impressive, but we headed right to the excavations. We just walked in to the site; at the time nothing was cordoned off, and there were no signs prohibiting entry.

“The excavations were a series of trenches about eight to twelve feet deep and four or five feet wide on the average. They trenches formed a sort of semi-regular maze.

“I had split off from the family group and was pacing rapidly through the maze. I was amazed to see areas with mass graves, the skeletons piled in disorderly jumbles. I could see broken bones, smashed skulls and some arrowheads and a few possible spear points. It was immediately evident that these bodies were hastily buried after a conflict or battle. There were dozens and dozens of skeletons, and the mass graves were only partially exposed.

“At one point, I rounded a corner, and I saw an archaeologist who was meticulously brushing dirt off the legs of a skeleton. I paused and waited. He was so absorbed in his work that he didn't seem to notice me. I walked past him slowly and quietly. He looked up at me with a mixture of surprise and annoyance. But he said nothing and turned back to his work. I glanced down at the skeleton and notice how enormous the skull was. Then I looked down along the body and limbs and realized this individual was from eight to ten feet tall, at least.

“I looked back a the skull, which had its jaws agape. I looked at the teeth, which seemed to be configured rather weirdly, and I realized that the chipped and discolored teeth were set in double rows!

“I was about to comment or ask a question, when I perceived that the archaeologist was glaring at me angrily, his face beet-red , and the veins in his temples were pulsing. I decided that it was best to keep quiet and proceed on my way”

COMMENTARY - ANALYSIS

With the advent of the internet, there are now dozens of scanned or otherwise digitized excerpts of old newspaper articles from the late 1800s to the early 1900s with references to unearthed giant skeletons. . Many references can be gleaned from books and articles in the Google Books scanned archives on the topic of giants in North America.

There are numerous accounts of giant skeletons with double-rows of teeth and also six fingers and toes. There seems to be a genetic factor involved in some forms of gigantism.

There are even accounts in the Bible of giant kings, some of whom had six fingers on each hand, Here are five giants listed in the Bible:

Lahmi II:1     Samuel 21:19   Chronicles 20:5
Ishbi-Benob  III:1    Samuel 21:16
Sippai (Sath)  III:2   Chronicles 20:4
'Exadactylous'  III:3   Chronicles 20:6-7

So, this tale has some plausibility, The general dates cited do coincide with an actual archaeological dig at Cahokia. In 1967, a mass grave with 250 skeletons was unearthed. Here is a link to a recent article detailing the official findings, again though, no mention of a giant : https://cahokiamounds.org/new-discoveries-from-cahokias-beaded-burial/

In summary, this is a tantalizing, yet ultimately unverifiable tale. Maybe some day there will be more contemporary verification of giant skeletons unearthed in North America.
