The Cursed Lake

A gorgeous idyllic-looking lake in the urban setting of Dallas, Texas harbors a dark history of taking lives and hiding the dead. Locals believe White Rock Lake is haunted, and with good reason.

A man was doing his regular run around White Lake and was randomly killed with a machete. His bride killed herself two weeks later.

Three women were killed in the White Rock Lake area and the search is on for their assailants.

There have been numerous drownings, murders, and even joggers on the trails around the lake report seeing the ghost.

The cemetery dating back to the mid 1800s in the lake park area is said to be haunted, as well.

In the 1930s, a plane went down in the lake, killing all on board.

The body of a 78-year-old woman was found floating face down. There were no signs of trauma.

A professional swimmer drowned in the lake.

A young man hung himself from a tree by the lake.

There have been numerous drownings, bodies found, bodies not found and even people jumping off the bridge.

Legends are strengthened by the tale of a woman in the 1930s who drowned there and supposedly takes the lives of others there to this day. Her spirit in a tattered wet 1930s gown is said to be seen on a local street.

The youths growing up in the area have often goaded each other at the cemetery and the lake. The dares go back to the 1930s when legends took hold.

SOURCE LINK:  In February 1937, Dallas police arrested four teenage boys at a house on Goliad between Concho and Delmar. They were caught inside the house with two flashlights, two pistols and a pinch bar. The police figured it was a burglary, as the house was furnished but unoccupied.

But the boys told police a different story: they’d heard the house was haunted by a woman who was murdered in the house and whose body was buried in the front yard. The boys were taken to the police station. We’re not sure what they thought they were going to do with those pistols.

Adding more creepy aspects to the legends, there is a reported goat man in the lake area.

SOURCE LINK: According to these accounts, the poor creature is half-man, half-goat. He is about 7 feet tall when standing and is covered from head to hoof in coarse, brown hair. He has 2 horn-like protrusions coming out of his head, his feet are hoofs like a goat and he has the body and face of a man. It's skin has a jaundiced appearance and he has long, gnarled fingers with grotesque fingernails.

Most often he is seen early in the morning when he comes running out of the woods toward an individual jogger or biker. He sometimes throws trash or even muddy tires at the person. With a fierce look on his face (some have reported his eyes to be red), he turns and seems to vanish into thin air.
