Mothman Festival: The Do-Not-Miss Event For Para Geeks!

"The nocturnal butterfly. In ancient cultures, the moth represents a form of the psyche, or the soul immortally trapped in the hellish death realms". Mothman. Well, that's what the Ukrainians called him. Rough translation of course. There were a hundred sightings in Chernobyl when the nuclear pump went down. Galveston, nineteen sixty-nine, just before the hurricane. They saw it. But seeing isn't always believing. (Alexander Leek - "The Mothman Prophecies" movie)

The Mothman Festival 2016 in Point Pleasant, WV is coming in mid September (17 and 18). Here is the official website. Also give the Facebook page a like.

Julie Ferguson and I went to Point Pleasant in 2013. It was one of my most favorite "bizarre" location trips ever!

As we drove over the bridge, both our cameras went dead at the same moment. I looked at the metal structure and water below and wondered about some kind of Faraday Effect (interaction between light and a magnetic field). When we got into town, we turned off and parked and checked our cameras and they were working again but half of the time on the bridge - nada.

The town is utterly charming and the people are quite engaging. They live in a tucked away place that time forgot with gorgeous riverside walkways and beautiful old architecture and charming cottage homes. In fact, Julie and I ended up turning off and studying homes for sale and pondering what a great place it would be to live.

We got instructions for how to get to the infamous TNT Bunkers -

But, as we started hiking in, a police officer stopped and questioned what we were doing and waited for us to leave.

I made a little virtual tour (above) on Google Earth.

This is an event I would very much like to attend if my schedule could permit. This would be one of the top 3 events I'd most like to go to in America. Yeah, that's how much I'd want to go if I were in the East and this was easily accessible instead of the desert southwest and bogged down with work.

If you attend this, I want to hear how it went. I am envious beyond belief - and, you have earned Julie's and my term from our book (Paranormal Geeks) "Para Geek."
