Winter-Themed Horror Movies

**I highlighted the ones that I love to watch in winter**

No one does cold-themed horror better than my Scandinavian relatives! You might add "Sauna" to your list too. It is a deep, moody, and haunting piece.

Ghost Story:  Four successful elderly gentlemen, members of the Chowder Society, share a gruesome, 50-year old secret. When one of Edward Wanderley's twin sons dies in a bizarre accident, the group begins to see a pattern of frightening events developing.
Storm of the Century:  A small village off the mainland is about to receive a huge winter storm. It won't be just another storm for them. A strange visitor named Andre Linoge comes to the small village and gives the residents havoc. He knows everything about them, and when he tells the truth about one of them, that person denies it. The town constable, Mike Anderson, tries to keep everyone in check with the huge storm and Linoge. Linoge keeps telling the people, "Give me what I want and I will go away".

30 Days of Night: After an Alaskan town is plunged into darkness for a month, it is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires.

Frostbitten:  A town in Sweden is attacked by vampires.

Dead Snow:  A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies (ON NETFLIX STREAMING NOW)

Trollhunter:  A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter. (ON NETFLIX STREAMING NOW)

Let the Right One In: Oskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but vampire girl. (ON NETFLIX STREAMING NOW)
  1. Phantoms:
150 dead and 350 missing in the tiny mountain town of Snowfield, Colorado. And that's only the beginning... (ON NETFLIX STREAMING NOW)

The Shining:  A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

Cold Prey:  Jannicke, Morten Tobias, Eirik, Mikael and Ingunn are on a snowboarding vacation in Jotunheimen. They are forced to take shelter in an abandoned hotel when Morten Tobias breaks his leg and their car is too far away for them to reach within nightfall. They quickly discover that the hotel was closed in the seventies due to the disappearance of the managers' son. Unknown to them, someone is still living in the hotel, and getting home, or even surviving the stay, isn't as easy as they believe.

Frozen:  Three skiers stranded on a chairlift are forced to make life-or-death choices which prove more perilous than staying put and freezing to death.  (ON NETFLIX STREAMING NOW)

Wind Chill:  Two college students share a ride home for the holidays. When they break down on a deserted stretch of road, they're preyed upon by the ghosts of people who have died there.

Dreamcatcher:  Friends on a camping trip discover that the town they're vacationing in is being plagued in an unusual fashion by parasitic aliens from outer space.

The Last Winter:  The American oil company KIC Corporation is building an ice road to explore the remote Northern Arctic National Wildlife Refuge seeking energy independence. Independent environmentalists work together in a drilling base headed by the tough Ed Pollack in a sort of agreement with the government, approving procedures and sending reports of the operation. When one insane team member is found dead naked on the snow, the environmentalist James Hoffman suspects that sour gases may have been accidentally released in the spot provoking hallucinations and insanity in the group. After a second fatal incident, he convinces Ed to travel with the team to a hospital for examination. However, weird events happen trapping the group in the base.

White Out:  U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko tracks a killer in Antarctica, as the sun is about to set for six months.

Antarctic Journal:  Strange things begin happening to an expedition deep in the Antarctic.

The Thing From Another World:  Scientists and American Air Force officials fend off a blood-thirsty alien organism while at a remote arctic outpost.  (There is also a modern version of this one by John Carpenter with lots of special effects)

**I will be doing a separate post about Christmas-themed horror.
