Life Philosophy

Everyone has rules they play by in life, whether they realize it or not. Here's mine:

Threefold rule: What you send out, comes back three times over.

The World: The world was here before I arrived and will be here long after I am gone. It is not up to the world and the people in it to adjust to my needs or my expectations, it is for me to adjust to it.

Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Ride of Life: You cannot smooth out the surf, but you can learn to ride the waves.

Zen: The way you do anything is the way you do everything.

I have these posted and every time I have an issue in my life, I refer to these. Someone wasn't being nice to me - "The World" is fitting. No, people will not do the nice thing, the considerate thing, or the sane thing, at least as how I see sane, nice, or considerate.

I had a crazy day and got tons of phone calls while trying to work, the apartment is a mess, I'm behind on my writing goal -- the "Ride of Life" rule. I just take the crazy chaos of the day and realize that I might have set out to do one kind of day, but now I have a different one to work with. Those who adapt to change live the longest and happiest lives. Don't fight it, just look at it like McGuyver and dive in to the new reality.

I hope this post helps you look at your own lives and what rules you would like to live by and which ones you actually use and aren't aware of. These guiding forces will give you a happy and productive life.

It results in this delicious prize called karma. It tastes sweet to those who use their rules to guide their decisions, and bitter to those who do not.

  1. Oh BTW: Have I told you how much I love your hair? Does it naturally curl like that? Or... do you style it like that?
    LOVE IT. Like a lot....

  2. Thanks, Kat. My hair naturally curly, but that day, I put a curling iron to the pieces around my face because when I slept on it, they got all goofy. 99% of the time, I wash my hair, run my fingers through it, let it dry naturally and don't comb it but once a week to get the tangles out. I was truly blessed in the hair department--thank you nordic/celtic genes.
