Mystery Castle: Crazy Place! And Zombies!

So, Julie and my son and I had an interesting day of exploring and I got some video and photos from this crazy tour we took of the Mystery Castle. Supposedly, in the times of TB as a death sentence, a man came from Washington State to AZ to get better from his TB. He built this insane castle for his wife and daughter. He died 15 years later and his family had not seen him in all that time. They came to the castle and if they agreed to stay there for a year, they could open up the trapdoor to the basement and see what was inside. Reporters waited excitedly when the one year was up. They opened it to find the deed to the place, $500 and a bunch of gold nuggets. Not bad. They were left with this insane mansion. In one area, there was a chapel where weddings were held and the brides, to make sure their groom was faithful, left a shoe. Some of them left both shoes-just in case! The other side of the chapel was a dividing room called "Purgatory" because on the other side of Purgatory was the saloon--a dark and spooky cool place. The place was as insane as bat shit, so I thought I'd give you a video that sort of shows how weird it was. Enjoy!

The Zombies? Check it out on this blog--great post!

  1. It did give me the willies. I don't get them often, but I would have given anything to kick everyone out of that place and spend a bit of time in there alone and especially in the crawlspace beneath it. If they would rent it for an overnight ghost hunt, I'd be totally into that!

  3. Hey HN;
    It's Creed "Beautiful" I admit the lead singer is a douche, but he is my favorite male singer ever. His voice just really gets me. That place was super funky and weird and the earth and rocks of the mountain cut into the building. Very weird.

    It is just a freaky place. I'd love to be in it alone. There were some places in the building that had so much residual feeling to them, I wanted to explore it. I'm sure the geology had a factor in that.

  9. Hunting is the practice of pursuing any living thing (usually wildlife) for food, recreation, or trade. In present-day use, the term refers to lawful hunting, as distinguished from poaching, which is the killing, trapping or capture of the hunted species contrary to applicable law. The species which are hunted are referred to as game and are usually mammals and migratory or non-migratory gamebirds.

    It was demented. I just kept picturing this sickly man hauling all those rocks, making all these weird rooms and knowing that the mountain there is all granite and the rocks had Indian petroglyphs on them and it just had this overall freaking Feng Shui about it. The bar was the craziest, deep into a dirt filled tunnel and dark and creepy. Man, if you got drunk there, you'd be sure you were in hell.

    It was interesting. I will give it that. Being built into the mountain was weird. The earth kept coming into the building and meeting with things. In one room, he built the building around the skeleton of a dead saguaro and that was pretty wicked cool.

  12. Curious place. I have always been fascinated by people that will spend so much of their lives build - what I would call art....on this kind of scale.

    Going to have to come see that some day. Not ghost related at all but there is a blog I love called Outsider Environments Europe. He features all kinds of interesting outdoor.....places.
