Boggy Creek REMAKE!

Here's the trailer for the remake of "Legend of Boggy Creek." I admit, I am extremely wary of remakes. The original "Legend of Boggy Creek" (listed as documentary) got me completely and totally enamored of the Bigfoot concept at a young age. I remember screaming out when I saw it. I wasn't scared of ghosts, just creatures bigger than me. I still am. I can't stand near horses and hate to be in circuses where there's elephants or any human over 6'4" tall.

The original movie was the most godawful concoction of all time. It dragged on forever with soft music and tons of bayou scenes and a folksy narrator. For a time, you'd forget it was about Bigfoot and think you were watching a nature special. But, the really funny thing in retrospect was the reenactments of "true stories." One in particular makes me laugh every time. They played out a scene of women in a cabin alone and Bigfoot banging around outside. Well, at one point the narrator says "the women were cowering in the room" and it shows a dude with a mustache wearing a woman's house coat. Okay, that's just priceless!

So, with this remake being made, I started to wonder--will they go campy or will they go hardcore? Looks hardcore and I'm pleased. I think the story of a swamp-based bigfoot is a feasible one and I want to see it portrayed with a bit more intelligence and some fear factor.

Personally, I'm still waiting for M. Knight to do a Bigfoot movie that involves the concept of man's struggle with whether this creature is man or beast. Still, I never ever miss a Bigfoot movie, even if SyFy channel made it! I just can't resist!

  1. I'm not sure about this. I know the original was a bit cheezy but it scared the crap out of me. It was so real that I was worried about BF attacking my house. I like the fear factor and making BF smarter like I believe he is, but just attacking teen girls is too much like those silly monster/slasher movies. BF would probably attack anyone that got in his way unless he is just annoyed by the teenieboppers. In that case I'm ok with that, lol.

  2. Yeah, I have the original on DVD purely for laughs. I do remember as a kid having it terrify me just for those glimpses of Bigfoot. In the movie, he was more a fear factor and less a threat. I seriously doubt BF has it out for anyone. I think it's really the other way around. But, for dramatic purposes, it does make for a real thrill. I hope they do it right where it's just menacing and unknown. I don't necessarily enjoy full-frontal BF unless they can do it really well. I'd rather see his dark shape gliding behind trees or casting a shadow on a porch. Still, it's about BF, so I gotta see it.

  3. Can't say I've heard of this. Bigfoot just isn't my thing I guess. And O god, Autumn, you'll get a crack at this. Someone just left a comment on my blog recommending I read "Dracula". TO ME. Yeah. I was gonna shoot back with some snarky remark then the comment just disappeared. What the hell?

  4. I admit, BF is one of my favorite subjects. I spent my childhood in the woods and thinking of something lurking there that could squash you--scary and cool.

    That's weird on your blog. Maybe you got yourself a little creepy vampire stalker on your blog. Hee hee. That's funny--Grim, you really should read about werewolves too. I think you might like that genre--oh, and zombies too. Hee hee

  6. I remember that non-movie. You give a good description, though I think it was meant to be serious.

    The only movie that ever scared me into altering my actions was Night of the Grizzly....

    I've tried a couple times to get my sister to write about her BF encounter.... I'll try again.

  7. @eloh;
    You totally get me! Yeah, my favorite made-for-tv was "Day of the Animals" that had Leslie Neilson becoming a rapist beast and the cast of stars all running from rabid-like animals. That was really bad-ass.

  8. I have to admit I've never seen this movie. However, I did see another one Charles Pierce, may he rest in peace, directed. It was about a serial killer in hometown during 1940s. It was pretty cheezy too but the guy was never caught. Whatever keeps the case fresh in people's minds.

  9. I think that's your most brilliant idea yet: M. Knight doing a Bigfoot movie. I'd love that!
