ABANDONED ISLANDS WEEK: Hashima Island, Japan

In this week's series of abandoned islands, we will see places from around the world. Here's our island for today -

Hashima Island, Japan
From 1887 until 1974, the island of Hashima (Battleship) Island in Japan was used for mining coal. Eventually in the 1970s, the island emptied out and remained that way until recently when they began some limited tours of the site.

It's hard to fathom on this small acreage how many hard-working miners and families were cramped together awaiting supplies.
