After almost 18 years reporting on the paranormal from the Desert Southwest, relocating to Georgia is giving this Virginia-born-and-raised girl, a happy familiar land of ghosts, Bigfoot, UFOs, battlefields, haunted B&Bs, and so much more. I'm delving today in one of dozens of haunted bridges - Spook Bridge!
Address: 940 Blue Springs Rd., Quitman, GA.
Spook Bridge is located in Brooks/Lowndes County, Georgia.
This legendary haunted location has it all - a creaking old bridge, a creek, and foggy nights when a young woman apparition is seen, sometimes causing near-misses in cars when she comes out of nowhere.
Yes, the bridge has a reputation of plenty of accidents, and many blame it on this troubling spirit. Of course, the road conditions aren't ideal, either.
The bridge was built in 1920. It was built to take folks to the Blue Hole spring. A few drownings occurred, some flooding, an accident on the bridge needing repair.
Eventually, a new roadway took people in another direction and this became much less traveled, rather forgotten.
There are plenty of origin stories for the haunting. One includes a husband and wife that regularly walked the bridge, and one day the husband pushed her to her death.
Another legend involves a high school couple crashing their car off the bridge and being swept away.
Reportedly, some folks say they hear the sound of fists pounding on their car hoods as they approach the bridge.
If the local police aren't monitoring the bridge when they can, the bridge also floods out during rains. If the ghosts don't get you, some very explainable situations could.
