The right Michael Myers mask makes all the difference. Let's look for the one that is most ideal by comparing with the original movie in 1978 - a mask that was created by doing a few alterations to a William Shatner Halloween mask -

Just for fun, here are some HORRIBLE MM masks (yeah, it's possible to totally mess this up!) -

Everyone should have a mask on hand.
Finally, let's take a look at the evolution of the mask in the movies -
People wonder why folks like me have an obsession with Michael Myers. That's a complex answer.
To some, he is the masked unknown Halloween character at their door. For a few years in a row, I had a Michael Myers trick or treat at my door. He was about 6'4" tall, wearing what looked like the exact same tow truck overalls, all faded and worn. He had a very real looking knife in his hand. He held a pillowcase and said nothing at all, no matter what I said to him. I was admittedly intrigued. Who was this fully grown adult, silently stalking for Snickers bars and Tootsie Pops? One year, I decided to peek into his pillowcase. There was no candy in it. I puzzled. My house was in the center of the street. Most kids start up one street and down another. I plopped candy in and watched him slowly stalk away. Then, I rushed up around my garage to see where he would go. And...he was nowhere. Nowhere on a lit street with five houses on each side of me. Hmmmmm.....
To other folks, Michael is that campy scare from childhood viewing. Perhaps it's the easygoing way he stalks his victims. It may also be the burning question - what is he? Does his split personality show up only on Halloween? Was he born from a family with a secret killer gene? Was he evil taking on a human form to walk among us? Was he born on indian burial ground? Maybe he was replaced with an invincible alien of some sort.... There are numerous possibilities, but this character will forever be burned into our culture as a symbol of Halloween's masked unknowns... and possibly that babysitting is a high risk career.
