Mount Shasta, California is the seat of a lot of native legends, mystic beliefs about ancient cultures, missing people, caverns, UFOs, Bigfoot, and more.
Sometimes, it seems like active volcanoes attract odd things. There are loads of pictures online of UFOs hovering around erupting volcanoes, the powers of the earth, the fertile volcanic soil, the god-like eruptions all seem to bring an energy to the area.
The forests around Mt. Fuji in Japan attract those wishing to end their human journey in a place that is known for birthing earth.
Mt. Shasta is an active volcano that last showed eruptive activity in 1914-1917. It is known to erupt about every 600-800 years. The last true eruption was about 3500 years ago.
Besides being an active volcano, it certainly was witnessed by many local tribes who carry their own thoughts about the volcano. Some of the Klamath Tribes in the area believe that the mountain houses the spirit of the above world, "Skell. "
When one location has so many legends and long-held beliefs into the modern day world, one has to wonder - what's it got that others don't?
UFO sightings, aliens seen in the hillsides, supposed doorway to hollow earth, hiding place of Lemurian refugees from the catastrophe that sank their island in the Pacific, missing people under strange circumstances, encounters with ghostly and alien beings, healing qualities, Bigfoot sightings, and so much more.

A volcano can be beautiful, it can give fertile earth that draws people in to farm, and yet its geothermal energy is so strong, as the volcano is the conduit for inner earth molten lava and land that gets resurfaced and expanded each time it erupts. Just think about the islands in the Pacific that were formed and continue to grow by such inner earth activity. It is no wonder they create legends and wonder, but what might that energy do for attracting or perhaps showcasing high strangeness?
If we want to go about this phenomenon logically first, we have to ask - what do the gases (hydrogen sulfite and benzene) put off by these volcanoes do to human mentation?

Interestingly, we humans are often drawn to nature elements without knowing why. Hot springs are geothermal outlets that people for thousands of years have sought out to soak and heal. Negative ions put off by things like moving water and rainstorms give us feelings of euphoria and well-being. Geomagnetic storms activate our pineal gland causing vivid dreams. We are so connected to our earth unconsciously that the latest rage, "earthing" (walking barefoot on the earth) are gaining new attention by city dwellers who have not been taping into the earth's nuances. We feel stress relief and healing, but don't realize why.
We see no reason that Mt. Shasta should create elements that make people hallucinate, but earth factors may be the reason we are either drawn to it or it affects our ability to perceive what we don't normally tap into - our psychic/intuitive.
When I was on a ghost team, I found that 100% of the time that the team suddenly saw and felt things (they weren't psychically aware), weren't particularly active nights, but they were nights when we had geomagnetic storms that affect the pineal gland, causing vivid dreams for most, can make regular folks suddenly attuned to the unseen.
As if humans note there is something active and alive in Mt. Shasta, it would be an obvious conclusion that it has many legends with magical qualities. Given that it is both an active volcano that spawns many lava tubes, the underground is also brittle due to the seismic activity in the region. Could things exist blow? They'd have to create a dynamic passage that allows for the constant movement and threat from both volcanic and seismic energy.
Would it bring about feelings of euphoria and healing? Very likely. Could the energy emitted through the earth also unsettle folks? Probably. Would Bigfoot be drawn to the area? Surely!
There are reasons why Mt. Shasta carries such mystery, legends, sightings, and experiences. It is a mecca for the receivers in our bodies that we aren't consciously aware exist.
