Aliens are a a hot topic lately. Anyone looking at the sky probably understands humanity's strange place. In the 60s, we looked to the stars. Today, we look for aerial phenomenon.
Let's explore possibilities and what they mean to humanity.

aliens come from other planets
This has always been the original assumption. What it means to us is that our knowledge of physics and alternative energy, metallurgy, and more are very crude. We are in the wheel and cart stage of locomotion.
This means that the government would very much like to learn and advance by reverse engineering anything they can get their hands on. This is understandable. If an isolated tribe saw someone light a match, they may focus their time on figuring out how that works. After all, it is in our nature to want bigger and better "toys."
From a religious standpoint, this is humbling to realize that our God created many others and loves them equally and they, too, are created in His image. As many explorers experience, mankind might be afraid of what they meet in the cosmos, they may consider them inferior, expendible, and crude, but the last thing we want is to realize that we are the inferior, crude, and expendible indigenous earth people.

aliens genetically created us
The annunaki are often cited as an historical example that people from another world came here, took the DNA that was available and made variations. Imagine today's Bigfoot, Lizardman, Dogman, were all failed attempts at intelligent bipedal beings, and set aside. Instead, imagine that the ape lineage might be already ideal for developing.
If we accept the concept of aliens being our engineers, the implications for religion are astonishing. Are they our God or did our God send down workers to help promising planets be populated? Perhaps this could be seen as a gift, a gift to create a planet that has a master among the beasts, to have free will and create what we shall for our home.

aliens are from another higher dimension
Imagine that you, a 3D biological form gazes at your photograph. That is a 2D version of you, just the front view in a split second of time, on a flat surface, containing no movement or mind. You go up one dimension and you suddenly have space, time, intelligence, biology, free will and more.
Now, let's assume a higher dimensional being has so many qualities we lack that we are nothing more than a pale facsimile, missing higher senses, higher knowledge, free movement, and no need for a physicality. Gets interesting, huh?
The thing we don't understand is, if we can't jump into a 2D world, but we can damage or control it, create it, how would a higher dimension enter our existence? Do they have the conscious ability to become a ghost figure and move among us? And, if we are a lower dimension, what are we reprsenting in 3D form here? Something from a higher dimension like a photograph, except a 3D one?

aliens are from our future
I rather like this explantion. I could understand the need for our DNA and even their worry about nuclear buildup. It seems if they didn't like the form they evolved in and they could time travel, they should go back to an earlier time in our liineage, no reason to come at this particular time. It is important to note that they began hanging around exclusively since nuclear technology started up. Perhaps the nuclear issue is the one that splits mankind off on another track.
The desire for hybridizing with us is much like, say, hybridizing waygu beef with our cattle until enough generations go through that the waygu traits breed solidly in the lineage. They are rushing to take away all the damage our generations have done to their own evolution.
This is an intriguing concept and if you look at us working at desks, having machines do more work, we might just develop bodies like theirs. Obviously, their brains advanced a great deal with huge brain capacity, but their bodies did not catch up and perhaps their vulnerability to changes in the environment.
How would we handle the future scenario? Well, I'd like to think they would have a face to face with powers that be and explain where mankind is headed - sort of a "Back to the Future" approach. For us, it may make us have to really rethink what the turning point is where we become brilliant but weak versus early man who was strong but not so bright.

aliens see our planet as a body of resources
There are lots of conversations about whether aliens mine here on earth, that we have resources they may have and so they settle down in the oceanss and come out to mine, returning to their underwater hidden bases, until they get what they want. It seems evidence of some kind of feral mining is absent. As well, materials and digging are not easily hidden. The other option is simply an ability to melt down sstone and metals and load up and go. The areas where they show up often are oddly heavily mined areas.
If we found that aliens were looking for materials, it would seem a deal could be struck - technology for materials. Otherwise, keeping track of areas they focus on may tell us what it is they want, we could load up and store it, making us an undesirable planet.

aliens are guardians over our violence
It would seem that they do, in fact, show up in areas of weoponry. It would seem they would have a vested interest in our survival or perhaps our emotional evolution.
In this case, it would seem they are benevelent and not the enemy. It's hard not to look at an alien face and their masterful technology without being terrified. Our reaction to their interactions says much about them. I compare it to Bigfoot. People assume these feral people are dangerous, but they are massively powerful and we go into their homes and camp, hunt, burn fires, make noise, and ride ATVs. Still, they do not punish us. They know they can hurt us easily and have to gentle their reactions. Perhaps aliens want nothing more than to "parent" us less developed beings and keep us from putting our hands in the fire.

aliens have always been here as a life form that shares our space in a parallel world. We are evolving to actually see them now
I fancy this explanation as it means that historically man painted UFOs and drew alien faces on cave walls and they have been here, but a modernized world has kept us from seeing anything beyond our daily needs. Maybe it's fast refreshing computer screens or just an evolutionary development, but we are seeing them more and more nowadays. We each have our own parallel worlds going on, but upon occasion they see ours and we glimpse theirs.
This is an interesting concept and one worth considering. They seem to move differently as if they are defying our physics, perhaps because in their parallel realm, that's how they move with a different set of physics. Until our scientific community quits regurgitating college-taught protocols and assumptions, we may not get anywhere with understanding that there are rules of physics depending upon the perspective of the participant in that particular world.

Of course, there are lots of other explanations, but these are the ones most bantered about. These are concepts that should be spoken about regularly because sometimes projects we place on others are really something we note in ourselves.
