The Different Frequencies of Sound for Healing and Meditation

There is more to the science of hearing than just gathering information about your environment and communicating. Sound waves affect us throughout every cell of our body.  In fact, let's take a look at what infrasound (frequency below the level of our hearing) can do to water molecules -

Let's take a look at frequencies and their benefits and purpose in our healing and relaxation -

White Noise: This has a wide spectrum of frequencies and sounds similar to a waterfall.

Pink Noise: This is louder on the low frequency range and then softer at the high frequency end. This is similar to light to medium rainfall.

Brown noise: Lowers frequency a bit so that the sound is more like a river current or strong wind.

Binaural beats: This is often recommended to be listened to with headphones as it is the mixing of one frequency for one ear and another frequency for the other ear. When the brain hears these two separate tones in each ear, it combines perception to another frequency. It is the frequency that is between the two tones being played for the ears.

Solfeggio: Utilized to help musicians to learn ear training and for sount therapy, this involves repeating 6 codes. These are said to help healing and raising spiritual awareness.

Nature Sounds: Perhaps the most popular for resting, the sounds of crickets, streams, ocean, thunderstorms and such are very satisfying and immediately associated with stress reduction.

ASMR: "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response" is the tingly feeling you get when you hear certain sounds. Some folks enjoy the sound of a fan or maybe someone crinkling paper, water plinking off a roof top, tapping, page turning, or whispering.

528 Hz: This frequency significantly decreases cortisol and increases oxytocin.

Theta Waves:  These are associated with creativity, intuition, and learning. Scientists believe it helps information processing and memory.
