Steampunk-Loving Movies


Steampunk is a style that borrows from the Victorian Era and revolution of the steam engine. It is in fashion, literature, art, lifestyles, and movies. Those who love that romantic time period and the gritty gadgetry and the rich fabrics, fancy clothing involved in turn-of-the-century, safari, and Egyptology will adore movies that exude that class. Here's a list of my favorites -

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) A down-on-his-luck inventor turns a broken-down Grand Prix car into a fancy vehicle for his children, and then they go off on a magical fantasy adventure to save their grandfather in a far-off land.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) An Edinburgh professor and assorted colleagues follow an explorer's trail down an extinct Icelandic volcano to the earth's center.

Wild Wild West (1999) The two best hired guns in the West must save President Grant from the clutches of a nineteenth-century inventor-villain.

Van Helsing (2004) The notorious monster hunter is sent to Transylvania to stop Count Dracula who is using Dr. Frankenstein's research and a werewolf for some sinister purpose.




20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) A ship sent to investigate a wave of mysterious sinkings encounters the advanced submarine, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo.

Time Machine (1960) A man's vision for a utopian society is disillusioned when travelling forward into time reveals a dark and dangerous society.

Captain Nemo and the Underwater City (1969) When Captain Nemo saves the passengers of a sinking ship and takes them to his Utopian underwater city he discovers that not all of his guests agree to remain there forever.




A Trip to the Moon (1902) A group of astronomers go on an expedition to the Moon.

Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) When a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents' vast fortune.
