Zombie-Proof Homes

If you are looking for real estate that makes your chances of zombie apocalypse survival greater than average, then you might consider features like islands, missile silos, tree houses, castles with barred windows, and my favorite, a high rise in which you've filled the entire lobby with spare furniture from the rooms on the other floors and then live off what's in the rooms until you run out. Hopefully by then, there is a plan B.

Let's look at some real-life zombie free residence scenarios.

This looks ideal, right? They have wind turbines and solar, and zombies can't swim, right? Well, unless you can drink saltwater and eat only fish, at some point you are going to need to leave and get fresh water and fruits and vegetables.

This 5.25 million dollar mansion in Austin has over 12,000 square feet on 4 acres, also has a private escape route to a boat house. Now, we're talking. Plenty of rain, water, land, hillside, few windows, can view things from the roof, can grow you own food, can get away to the lake to the boat if necessary. Now we're talking!

I tend to think there are two really viable options:

1. Consider something mobile so you aren't trapped. The problem with this is the possibility of being vulnerable, as you would need gasoline, healthy tires, escape routes, and it would be easy to tamper with a movable home.

2. Consider security fencing as your first defense, then windows and doors that can be shuttered, as well as fireproof.

We may not really have a zombie apocalypse but we could make our homes secure for us to travel, enjoy life, feel safe at night, and be ready for an civil unrest.

It's necessary to know where we should flee to AFTER it starts!

    1. I'd actually rather have a zombie apocalypse than nuclear explosion, meteor or disease.

  2. I think I saw this on Yahoo. It's a nice piece of property. I think zombies and water is an interesting topic. I don't think they would have the ability to swim, but I also don't think they would avoid water especially if something was to catch their attention and lure them in. I think the question is would they be able to survive being tossed around in the ocean. That would be one of my main concerns. Stinky zombies washing ashore my luxurious island resort. It's a total buzz kill. :o)
