I'd be surprised if my readers didn't know what MUFON is, but let me inform you just in case; Mutual UFO Network.
This is really a reporting site for those who have witnessed UFOs and the information is put together, sometimes investigated, patterns looked for, et cetera. In 2008, I had a triangle UFO sighting that I reported for myself and my son and my husband at the time. They followed up with a questionnaire and phone call because these triangle sightings were becoming very popularly seen.
I have covered UFO information on the blog before and seen several myself that defied logic, and yet I find I've never been particularly interested in the phenomena because we already know we have a lot of things in the air, some of which we should not be seeing, and anything that is seen at such a distance is harder to identify. I also have never had a personal believe we're being visited by outsiders, but you know I love theories and conjecture, so the very controversial subject of UFOs and the dichotomy it creates makes me want to investigate more.
I'm attending a MUFON meeting this weekend and will report back. I haven't covered meeting on here before, so I thought it was long overdue. Perhaps it will open my mind on the subject or more likely set me in a new direction of theories and curiosity.
I've never seen one of these things (or at least if I have its crew subsequently eradicated the sighting from my memory). But to quote the immortal Carl Sagan, "Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence." And possibly it's also true that lack of absence of evidence isn't lack of evidence of absence, and vice versa, but I'm not entirely sure that's relevant in this context. In fact, I'm not entirely sure what the hell it means, but it sounded good in my brain before I typed it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this will add anything to the topic, but in a Halloween series of posts I did last year, I covered UFOs and a prominent UFO-logist who concluded that alien abductions and similar stories were really a cultural and futuristic adaptation of much older demonology lore.
ReplyDeleteSeems plausible to me. For instance, I'm still giving some thought to a well-documented fact I learned only last night about the Mayans -- that they ingested beer and other mind-altering substances (e.g., peyote) via enema. Their shamans were the most diligent in this practice, seeking supernatural visions. It may that other ancient cultures also practiced this method of nether region exploration, so to speak, and that the frequent association of ET abductions with anal probes may be a cultural vestige of this.

How could anyone be so arrogant to think that we are the only life that exists in the universe (ours or beyond)? That's my take on UFO's. I too have seen stuff that isn't explainable. Do I think they are all UFO's? Of course not. But ya just never know! My opinion of this is like that of other types of unknown or paranormal stuff...until you can prove it DOESN'T exist....then why should I believe otherwise? LOL
