Banshees!

Happy St. Patty's Day. Being a Frazier/Fraser, I can appreciate this day and proudly flaunt the fact that green looks good on redheads.

In honor of my Irish/Scottish relatives, I am going to do a post about Banshees.

This Irish legendary spirit is referred to the Lady of the Fairy Mounds and is supposedly a harbinger of death. If a family hears a banshee wail, someone dear is going to die. The Welsh, Norse and Northern American Natives all have similar legends of a creature that is a death harbinger. The banshee can appear as a frightening hag, but she can also appear as a stunningly beautiful woman of any age that suits her. Although not usually seen, her mourning call is heard, usually at night when someone is about to die and usually around woods.

We had a female ghost at Aspen Grove who screamed every summer at twilight on hot days. Some folks who heard it called it a Banshee. When I was younger I looked up the meaning, worried about it since she did scream from the edge of the woods. Since no one dear to me died following her cries, I learned to blame it on the nurse who supposedly drowned there during the Civil War.
