Just one day. Just one freaking day!
We get the weekend off and what do we do? Clean the house, get the groceries, wash the laundry, sleep, watching National Geographic because we're too out of it to change the channel when a show about sloths comes on.
What about that magical day in the middle of a hard week? You know the one--the one you could potentially take off, but don't. Call in on a Wednesday and they know you're sick. Call in on a Friday and they know you're partying. Call work. Take that sick day.
Now, you've been given one day to prowl the world while others work. What do you do with it? What does your inner Ferris Bueller do?
Go to a movie and sit in the middle of an empty theater and kick your feet up because you can?
Sit at an outdoor patio restaurant and watch the work-a-day people rush by?
How about going into an import exotic food store and smell all the teas and taste all the samplers?
Maybe you would go to the library, pick out a stack of books, kick back and read in blissful silence?
It might be the ideal day for a museum when they're empty and quiet and cool.
Wander the mall window shopping, trying on things you would never ever normally wear. Have lunch in the food court while it's empty.
And, if you're really feeling it, get into a convertible and drive downtown. Go to a restaurant in the tallest building. See a baseball game. Get caught up in a parade and sneak back home before anyone knows you took the day off.
Report back to me. I want to know what you do when you take a Ferris day off. I'm doing it next week. I will report back, I promise! I will even get video. Julie and I are going to hit the road.
I am looking forward to our Ferris Bueller's day off. It may sound silly to look forward to a day off when I don't work but my days are mostly boring. It is a treat when I can get away on one of our crazy road trips and shake it up baby.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite movies of all time!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a classic! I was a Ferris. I somehow always managed to charm and get myself out of all my antics which is probably why Julie feels safe traveling with me. She knows I can come up with an excuse in a second if we're caught in an abandoned building or a cemetery after dark.
ReplyDeleteLove this movie! Well the Beau gets a day off during the week on Wednesday so when he decides not to go in for extra sales, we do all kinds of stuff! We sometimes take a day trip to find cemeteries or other cool old historic places, we sometimes grab a bite to eat in a new place, we go house hunting just for fun, check out the antiques places or the Goodwill, all kinds of stuff! I usually keep my camera on me too! Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't, but we try to find something to get in to!
ReplyDeleteOf course now it's too damn hot to do much in the middle of the day with 50+ humidity! It's like breathing water! You step outside and immediately begin to sweat! Yuck! I'm already looking forward to the cooler weather!
Wow, sis. Yeah, it was 116 yesterday here and it basically feels exactly like standing next to a bonfire real close and your skin prickles and burns and breathing hurts. Still, that kind of soup air doesn't sound too good either. Do some indoor Ferris stuff, maybe see a movie.
ReplyDeleteBueller?
