This is my new series to keep us perpetual nerds up-to-date on trendy things.

Mash-Ups

Mixing two songs to make a new one. This one is not only popular, but there are amazing music videos mashed up to make something that takes music from kind of 2D to 3D. Often, they take two bands that are completely unrelated and once mashed up, they actually make sense together!

(two of my favorite bands, Black-eyed Peas and Kings of Leon)

I get my fix every day on my favorite mashup blog, Mash It Up - The Music.

  1. This isn't exactly a mash-up, but I appreciate the concept: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I

  6. I actually tried to mash-up the song "TNT" by AC-DC and "We Will Rock You" by Queen. It wasn't very good.

  7. Dang HN; You are a man of many talents! That would be a good mix, I gotta admit! I adore AC/DC. I'm sentimental about Queen and Journey, Styx and Van Halen. I like just about everything but I get angry every time I hear C&W music. I don't know what it is, but it pisses me off. It might be the summer I spent in Midland, TX. I wanted to shoot anyone playing C&W in their trucks (everyone).

  8. My favorite mashup thus far has been the Police's "Message in a Bottle" and "Fix You" by Coldplay. They almost seem as though they were written for each other.

  9. Aaron; I gotta look that up--sounds good. Mash It Up - The Music had one on the other day that was my fav! Drive by Incubus (my favorite lyrics in a song ever--and chosen as my funeral song as the theme to my life philosophy) and Christina Aguilera "Genie in a Bottle." I would never have put them together but it was wicked awesome!
