Woman With Phantom Arm

This article really struck me as having some components that might explain hauntings. Is it at all possible that the human body can create a phantom self? Would this contain the soul? That this woman can actually relieve an itch with a third arm that does not to the eye exist, is intriguing. If you look at humans, we can imagine picking a lemon, feeling the waxy texture, and biting into it, and we will actually salivate. We are not actually biting a lemon--but our mind does not know the difference. I'd love to hear from ya'all about what you think of this phenomenon and how it might integrate into hauntings.

  1. People who lose limbs through amputation or other means often report the same kind of phenomenon. They say it feels like their arm is still there and sometimes will say it's in pain or it feels like it itches, even years after having no arm at all. I think you're definitely on to something when you ask about our phantom selves containing our souls. Could that be our astral energy? How does all this integrate with hauntings? I have no idea. Could people who witness spirits and hauntings be really witnessing living people practicing astral projection? Eh, that's probably a stretch. I have no idea.

  2. Stephen;
    Love your way of thinking. I've always proposed that perhaps when we dream at night, we're really traveling the soul's pathway. That our soul is actually out and about doing things, experiencing things. I can't tell you how many times I wake from sleep to feel like I took a very long journey, saw other cultures, learned other languages. Very intriguing. They've taken kirlian photographs of a leaf that was cut in half and the complete leaf still shows after having half of it cut away. I would be intrigued to know if anyone ever thought to take photographs of people like this woman to see what shows up on their "aura" photo. Astral projection and remote viewing--all things that could be attributed to this ability of the mind to extend past the physical form that we know of into perhaps another (for lack of better term) plasma pathway.

  4. I have to echo Stephen's comment. I had a friend that lost a limb and went through that very thing feeling like his missing leg was itching. He had to retrain his mind into knowing that the leg was gone. I never heard of this phenomena before so it would be interesting to find out if there is a connection to this and hauntings.

  5. BTW, when I first saw the picture, Steve Martin's song, "King Tut" went through my mind.

  6. Great-so now you're hearing "King Tut" (one of the worst ear worms in the world!) You'll be hearing that for days in your head. Maybe we could call that "Phantom Steve Martin" syndrome.
