Boycotting Summer! Straight To Autumn!

I have a tumbling autumn leaf tattoo and it is my badge for the greatest season.

This summer has been brutal for most of us this year. And, predictions say a late-arriving autumn. For those of us in the desert, leaves don't change until the first week of December!

There is a special kind of relief when Labor Day comes and nights cool down properly and a whole different level of excitement when it's time for bonfires, chili, Halloween decorating and raking leaves.

Let's tuck inside for a weekend and pretend it's autumn. Here's some fun ways to embrace it -

Lighting and temperature: Start with darkening your home. Use some battery-operated or regular candles. Scented candles really embrace the feel. Turn the air conditioning temperature down just for movie-watching time.

Treats:
Scoop out halved apples, leaving some flesh. Pour melted caramel into the halves, wrap in Saran Wrap and place in fridge until firm and slice. Inside out caramel apples.

Heat apple cider and add some rum.

Make hot cocoa and add some Kahlua.

Bake an apple pie with some caramels tucked into it.

Press Reeses cups into hot brownies from the oven.

Create Halloween bark by melting chocolate or white chips, adding vanilla and spreading it over a baking sheet with waxed paper sprinkled with pretzels, peanuts and candy corn.

Attire: Put on your favorite autumn colors or pull out a favorite blankie-

Scents:  A crockpot of chili or perhaps put some cinnamon sticks in water with some cloves or nutmeg on a stovetop on low and let it scent up the house. There are lots of great candles in cinnamon, pumpkin, and pine.

Watch chilly scary movies in darkess: Halloween, Trick R' Treat, Shattered Silence, The Fog, The Shining, The Thing From Another Planet, 30 Days of Night, Wind Chill, Frostbitten, Dead Snow, Snowbeast, Trollhunter, The Covenant, Night of the Living Dead, Campfire Tales, The Watcher in the Woods.

Music:  Nox Arcana and Midnight Syndicate have great albums to get you in the mood. I listen to them when writing horror. Or the soundtrack from the original "Dark Shadows" show.

You want to get in the mood more? How about anticipating Spirit Halloween's new animatronics for the season?

How much longer until fall colors on average?

Scary movies coming out this fall?

Lights Out: Produced by James Wan. When her little brother, Martin, experiences the same events that once tested her sanity, Rebecca works to unlock the truth behind the terror, which brings her face to face with an entity that has an attachment to their mother, Sophie.

31: Rob Zombie. 31 tells the story of five carnies in 1976 kidnapped on the morning of Halloween and held hostage in a remote industrial Hell. While trapped, they are forced to play a violent game called 31. The mission is to survive 12 hours against an endless gang of grease--- painted maniacs.

Start looking for good haunted attractions in your state and decide where to go this fall. LINK

My Halloween book "Adult Halloween: Taking Back the Season!" is just about to be released. It has really steeped me in the mood!

Immerse yourself. For the weekend, boycott summer. Go right to the dark cool place....
