I always dreamed when I was a teen of living in a huge old converted warehouse where it had an old freight elevator and a giant open room where I could rollerskate around my apartment and have tons of mannequins dressed up and be a window dresser and model for a living. A few years later, a movie with Diane Lane came out called "Lady Beware" and it was based on that exact plot! In fact, I should review that for the blog--that was an awesome stalker movie done when Diane was more voluptuous and cheeky.Sharon Dayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609356325356264202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562032584293780619.post-12960364310814379032010-02-15T08:18:39.240-08:002010-02-15T08:18:39.240-08:00Thanks for the HM. You shouldn't have given me your weaknes...Grim;
You shouldn't have given me your weakness, I might have to send you a creepy doll some day just to scare you! Yeah, I've been meaning to transition from the medical transcription and write and do an Etsy shop. I'm hoping to make a lot more thematic wall hangings like the Ouija one and Steampunk jewelry. I have the advantage of being able to read the objects, so I can put together pieces that have an overpowering emotion attached to them. I believe anyone that put them on would feel it too. We're all psychic, some just get images and information rather than vague sensations. I also would love to do something with finding parts, amplifying their qualities with crystals associated with the same emotion, so a piece might be "serendipity" or "whimsy" and the stone could bring out the memories of the piece even stronger to make the wearer really feel that emotion strongly. Got lots of ideas, just need to prioritize. I will definitely keep every up-to-date on how it progresses.

Julie;
I enjoyed your story so much. I actually know I'm reading a piece that the author saw in their head because the visual on it becomes really distinct. If I pick it up and read it years later, I can see the same location in my head. Yours was definitely one of those pieces. It reminded me of a neighborhood in Scottsdale where they have the alleys behind them. Creeped me out! Please keep writing. The way you post on Above the Norm, I really would love to see you write a nonfiction too about ghostly places.Sharon Dayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609356325356264202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562032584293780619.post-38986119817667638022010-02-14T10:13:18.342-08:002010-02-14T10:13:18.342-08:00Very good choice on the winner. I really should go garage sailing this year and try and find one. Imagine if I did and it was haunted! Then it could write itself and my job would be halfway done. Speaking of vintage, you should seriously make some steampunk jewelry and sell it here.

And hell no! You would never get me to go up to your house on Halloween! That sounds terrifying!!!! In fact, right now I'm hoping to seriously take up some steampunk creating and one of the things I want is an old not working typewriter to use the parts. I love that kind of nostalgia. My first novel I did on a typewriter. It seens so funny now. I don't use my desktop for writing because I work from home and that's my work office with all the medical books and stuff around me so it makes me think of work and the left brain so I have to leave there to write. I'm building a creepy cemetery in a dark corner of my yard (will be covering that on my blog) and it will have a lantern so at nighttime I can light the lantern and sit on a lounge chair nearby with the laptop and some creepy music and write my heart out. Halloween plans... All my super souped up creepy baby dolls looking out all the front windows like they're peeking out and have taken over the house. When you walk up to the house, the garage door, I plan to project a giant movie of a creepy old-fashioned marionette puppet and then as you walk up the walkway towards the door, my goal is to get mannequins from a friend who works at a dept store (they throw them out--can you imagine?) Then, I'm going to wear a creepy 1950s belted dress and Mary Tyler Moore hair and a plastic mask that makes me look like a mannequin and move real stiffly as I hand out candy. The overall effect should be adequately scary. Last year, I did a beta testing of the dolls in the front window and the kids were so freaked out that they'd dare each other to ring the bell and they couldn't stop looking at the dolls-thinking they'd move. I hope to modify some more baby dolls with metal nuts and bolts and other modifications...Sharon Dayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609356325356264202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562032584293780619.post-34159948154000474562010-02-14T09:23:06.371-08:002010-02-14T09:23:06.371-08:00Autumn, I know what you mean. I have to admit at times it's easier to just write on a desktop some days over others though. Don't know why, I guess it's nostalgic at times, like the typewriter days (which I would love to get someday just to see what it's like to pen an entire story on one). But I still love my laptop and any other mobile device I can get my hands on these days. Without them, I'd never be able to talk to all you lovely people. And what's this Halloween thing you're thinking? I'd definitely make sure to steer clear of your street if I lived out there. Freak'n dolls.

Happy V-Day!Grimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09512527105337747078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562032584293780619.post-13331225678742961872010-02-14T09:12:22.503-08:002010-02-14T09:12:22.503-08:00Ops, my bad. If you'd like, I can edit it into the announcement. Yes, I know what you mean about taking the time to write. If I didn't have my laptop, nothing would ever get done because I need to be able to be in other places, like the backyard (it's in the mid to upper 70s here). Oh, and if you hate dolls--wait till you see my Halloween setup this year--they take over the house and possess it, a mannequin even answers the door....Sharon Dayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13609356325356264202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562032584293780619.post-65710039920885954622010-02-14T05:54:35.508-08:002010-02-14T05:54:35.508-08:00Geez, I proofed that comment 3 times before I hit ...Geez, I proofed that comment 3 times before I hit "Publish" and only now do I see all the mistakes. Since you know what a geek I am you're the winner of my "Why I Dragged My Ass Outta Bed Early This Morning" contest. Yes, this means I am completely without coffee and my hair looks like the giant tsunami that hit Sri Lanka, so we'll see how convoluted this comment gets.

Now for my Emmy moment: First I want to thank all who entered....Okay kidding. Wow, I don't know what to say other than this is cool. And thanks for the opportunity to write. Honestly, scratching 500 words wasn't as bad as I though it might be. These days the hard part isn't the writing that's the pain, it's the sitting my ass so so that I CAN write that is.

And Courtney;

How the hell did you know creepy-ass dolls were one of my worst fears??? If I ran into something like the thing in your story my mind would automatically think "FIREWOOD!" or "CHAINSAW!". The entire time I read your entry I kept seeing and thinking of that creepy doll autumn has and why oh why anyone would even keep it in their house, let alone touch one!!! You've heard of that freaky doll in the Florida museum haven't you??? Ah!!!!

P.S. Thank god for spell check this morning.Grimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09512527105337747078noreply@blogger.com
