Amazing Light Phenomena Seen Around the World

Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights

The natural world has a huge variety of unusual light effects. Some seem rather magical. Others are still unexplained. And, in the field of paranormal research a few are truly otherworldly. Here's just some of what the world has to offer in the way of light effects -

Northern Lights

The aurora borealis or "northern lights" (aurora australis/southern lights) are an amazing wonder that occurs when gaseous particles in our planet's atmosphere collide with charged particles. The effect is stunning in the night sky.

Light Pillars

Ice particles that are lit by lights on the ground. Depending on the lights' color, the columns take on that hue.

Sprites and Jets

An atmospheric optical illusion that occurs with thunderstorms. As this occurs up where only the space station and those outside the atmosphere can see it, we didn't realize these existed.

St. Elmo's Fire

This rare and precious phenomena involves a coronal discharge from a sharp pointed object and resulting luminous plasma. Sailors had reported this for some time. In this photo above, a plane cockpit.

Ball Lightning

Ball lightning is a rare phenomena that can be dangerous. It occurs with lightning and creates a hot plasma in a kind of "electromagnetic knot."

Will-o-the-wisp

Referred by some as an atmospheric ghost light, will-o-the-wisp occurs near bogs and swamps. It appears like a flame-like light of phosphorescence.

Sun Dogs/Rainbows

A sun dog is a halo created by sunlight and ice crystals in the atmosphere. It creates a rainbow-like halo around the sun. Rainbows are created by rain falling and sun shining through it.

Spooklights

Referred to by names and locations such as Min Min Light, Marfa Lights, Brown Mountain Lights, Hornet Spooklight, these light are compared often times to a lantern light in the distance, horizon, roadway, or forest. Many report trying to find its origin to discover it's very elusive.

LINKAccounts of the light appearances vary, though they are most commonly described as being fuzzy, disc-shaped lights that appear to hover just above the horizon.[1][2] They are often described as being white, though some accounts describe them as changing colour from white to red to green and back again. Some accounts describe them as being dim; others describe them as being bright enough to illuminate the ground under them and to cause nearby objects to throw clearly defined shadows

Phytoplankton

Bioluminescent phytoplankton takes a special combination of conditions to create this lovely glow. Some people flock to the special beaches to see them glow at night.

Dust Particles in Helicopter Blades?

LINK: It's not understood in Afghanistan how this light phenomena occurs except to consider things like the blades cutting through air that has particles in it and static charge.

Unexplained Shooting Lights

On a patio on a dry warm evening with very faint, occasional breezes, a witness encountered something truly unexplained.

A tiny white light shot by him on the patio and more started swooping down from what appeared to be the nearby fruit tree or perhaps somewhere up above the house. They raced along the patio and seemed to hover at the concrete near some solar lights that were glowing. Occasionally, a green light or red light would race by. He was in utter wonder and bewilderment. Sometimes, the lights seemed to scare off like nervous fairies. Then, they would rush back to the concrete floor and solar lights.

His companion saw something out of the corner of her eye, turned her head to see twinkling diamond-shape light that lasted only a fraction of a second. This happened several times, but she did not see the streaking of light he saw.

It died down after perhaps 20 minutes and didn't return.

Was he viewing a living energy swirling about the plants and tree and chasing the light as if it were a sun source or was this something of a spirit realm?

If this occurs again, an attempt will be made to capture the light and find out what instigates it and makes it dissipate.
