September on GHT: Kolchak Cold Cases

September, leading up to the Halloween month, is going to be all about the unsolved mysteries in our world and the people who encounter them, as well. I will be kicking off September with a couple posts about how to be one of those lucky fools who runs into the unexplained.

The month will be filled with lots of "WTF's???" and "no way's!" Enjoy, my curious friends. I know I am enjoying it!

Upcoming Horror Movies This Fall

Most of us have to admit that horror movies have been hit or miss in recent years. We try so hard to want them to do well; Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring, and others, but we hitting the horror-lovers' sweet spot is not an easy task.

Jamie Lee Curtis: Horror Queen

Jamie Lee Curtis made her name in horror movies of the late 70s and early 80s. When you look at the time period and movies she did, that was one busy actress!

MST 3000 Coming To Netflix!

As if it weren't exciting enough that MST3000 is coming back for all us faithful nerdish fans, but they are going to be shown on Netflix!

This epic event is going to include a new cast, but also bringing back the past cast in various ways.

So far, they are inked in for 14 new episodes.

I will be keeping everyone up-to-date on when these releases begin on Netflix.

Anyone who loved the original show, knows the premise of the "not too distant future" and a man and two robots in outer space forced to watch bad movies as punishment. They sit through the movies, but mock the poor productions delightfully.

I raised my son on the series and he and I would rent bad movies just to MST them. There were so many "awfully good" ones, but a few stick out in my mind, like "Legend of Boggy Creek 2" and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians."

Child Ghosts

The Top 10 Freakiest Phenomena of the New Millennium

Some phenomena occurs for decades, maybe even reported centuries ago, but it doesn't take hold in modern day reports until more recently. Other times, a phenomena seems to have come out of nowhere and caught our notice.

Since the year 2000, there have been some pretty freaky things happening around the world that have us all shaking our heads and wondering - could something be trying hard to get our attention?

Let's look at the top 10 most newly reported phenomena (no particular order) since the new millennium; all of them equally chilling -

Amazing Dogman and Other Encounters: Cryptid Witness and Archivist: Kirk Stokes

Repeated themes in history through legends and popular drama, writings and movies, has to make one wonder about a kernel of truth. Cynocephaly (dog-shaped heads) have been reported for thousands of years, whole tribes of these people. Yet, today, we seem surprised to hear they ever existed.

One man, Kirk Stokes, is perhaps one of the most prolific witnesses and archivists of these beings. And his forays into the Kentucky wilderness and his ability to accurately and clearly account for his encounters, makes what he has to say all the more riveting.

"Arrival" Upcoming Alien SciFi Movie!

I run the group "Alien Contacts" on Facebook. We are all experiencers of contact or abduction, or simply curious about these occurrences. This movie coming out promises to be a must-see dramatization of aliens arriving and our first contact.

Amy Adams plays a linguist put to the task of talking to aliens who have landed around the world. Someone has to make contact and communicate and she takes her job quite seriously.

This is set to be released in theaters November 11th. I can hardly wait!

All Things Sleepy Hollow

A short story written by Washington Irving was first published in 1820. Today, the legend still gives people chills. It was wholly unique and terrifying. When we think autumn, we think - headless horseman!

Let's explore the mystique and horror of Sleepy Hollow - a tale that has passed the test of time.

It's rare that people leave a home with belongings intact. It takes a special set of circumstances for this to occur. Let's have a look at what it's like to perform urban archaeology.

Five of the Most Haunted Roads in America

There is nothing like a trek in the summertime through green overgrowth on a narrow country road, twisting and turning without knowing what is up around the next bend, but it's even more spooky when you know the road has a reputation for unexplained mysteries, ghosts, spooklights, and weird creature sightings.

I'm going to share my top 5 favorite haunted roads in America.

Vintage Collectible Automatons For Sale!

Vintage automatons are fascinating. If you saw the movie "The Woman in Black," you probably got creeped out by the nursery with them playing. These were quite an amazing art form, some made hundreds of years ago.

I found some amazing pieces for sale and thought I'd share them. I think if I could have a fine collection, this would be #1 on my list!

Facing Fears in the Scariest Haunted Campgrounds in America

I talked in my book Adult Halloween: Taking Back the Season! about how we can push our tolerance for creepy things as adults. It's the end of summer and yet not quite Halloween, so it might be the ideal time to use a camping trip as a way to face some fears. I'm going to give five scary campgrounds you might want to try out and some very real ways at each one to face your fears. Do you dare?

Bigfoots' Skin

Bigfoot and gray skin

There's a lot of back and forth about descriptions of Bigfoots' skin, but the vast majority involve gray skin, whether it's blue gray and deep like an ape or a lighter gray like a gray cat.

Halloween Early!

With the release of my new book, Adult Halloween: Taking Back the Season! I find myself in the mood for all things spooky, so I started setting up my home early so I can watch horror movies in the right atmosphere.

Can Crimes Be Blamed on Pop Culture?

Two Wisconsin girls (ages 12 and 13) are on trial for stabbing another girl 19 times and leaving her for dead under the premises of wanting to appease the Slenderman. Amazingly, the girl survived and the perpetrators are now going to be tried as adults. This case has brought into view once again popular culture's effects on troubled people.

The X-Files Episode That Was Banned!

I'm On the Radio Tonight: Navigating the River Styx

Tonight I'm on the radio show, "Navigating the River Styx" with the fabulous host TJ Sanfilippo, talking a ton of subjects from alien greys to what are souls and how do they work, to haunted locations, geology, ancient giants, the human experience, near-death experiences, and so much more. This was a very in-depth and heavy subject matter and I suspect it's going to be hard to leave the room when this one's on. It was a great show and tons of information.

I hope it opens minds and inserts wonder!

The show is being aired at 8:30 EST tonight/7:30 Central/5:30 Pacific.

What Are Shadow People? The Chilling Possible Explanation

They were given the moniker "shadow people," but that is not exactly how they appear. These beings, usually 3-4 feet tall (sometimes full height or tall), are human shaped and completely utterly devoid of details to be a kind of "black hole" of humanoids. It's what they do and where they are that is scaring people.

In this post, I plan to shatter some of the earlier concepts of what shadow people are and it might just be even more unsettling than popular assumptions....

Abandoned Places: Short Chillers

I'm ushering in the spooky season with some photos of abandoned places and short flash fiction beneath to give my readers an afternoon thrill. Enjoy!

Church of Purgatory

Along a dusty untraveled road sat the decaying skeleton of a once grand church.

The curious wanderer stopped at the entrance to squint into the darkness.

"Come in," spoke a disembodied voice. "Come, boy, don't be afraid. We have cast out all the sinners. Repent boy and join our legion in the ether of this cathedral."

The mental ward shut down and the exhausted and financially strapped owner opened the doors and let the patients free.

They wandered the marshes around the bay, some finding shelter under a suspension bridge, others being captured by the townsfolk and sent to other facilities.

But, the stubborn ones remained in the facility's pantry, determined to stay no matter what.

One day, months later, the bank sent someone to slap a sign on the door. The curious worker entered and poked around looking for some expensive bauble he could steal. But what he didn't expect were the hungry feral residents hiding behind the pantry door....

“I’m up here! Please! Hurry!”

He hated kids. He loved dogs.

Wild dogs. Ones that would chase the neighbors away. He'd feed them raw meat on Wednesdays. That is, if they hadn't caught anyone to eat.

A single candle glowed in the attic window each night. Shadows moved within. When the light went out, the chanting began. And continued until dawn...

She had four handymen over the years and yet nothing looked improved to the neighbors. Come to think of it, no one had seen the caretakers either....
