Universal Classic Monsters: Which Do You Identify With?

From 1923 to 1960, Universal Studios put out horror films that showcased monsters that would become our universal classic favorites! If there was a golden era for monsters, this was IT!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Phantom of the Opera
Dracula
Frankenstein
The Wolf Man
The Invisible Man
Creature From the Black Lagoon
The Mummy

From these glorious movies, we fell in love with tragic lonely misunderstood creatures and the actors who played them; Lon Chaney, Jr., Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi

The Phantom of the Opera

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Most folks have a favorite, whether it's Dracula or the Phantom, but in some way, each monster reached out and touched us because all of us know what it's like to feel different, broken, not quite up to standards, sometimes even hideous and unlovable, depending on how our adolescence went.

I personally was mad about the Gillman from "Creature From the Black Lagoon." I found myself understanding him as a lonely one with me being the fifth of five kids and much younger than the others. Here this poor fellow was swimming around his lagoon and thinking he's the last of his kind when a pretty lady arrives and he believes he might just have to steal her in order to not be alone because there is no way she would let her near any other way. The beauty and the beast scenario was prominent in all these movies because the monsters were outcasts and misunderstood, hurt, and angry.

It's hard for anyone who has either been an outcast, nerd, rebel, or highly individual to not identify with these poor creatures. So, let's take my quiz and see who you truly connect with.

  1. I got mostly A's and the "Phantom" is definitely my favorite. The one that makes me cry every time I've seen it.
