Classic Ghost Movies

There are plenty of ghost movies on the shelves, but the fact is that making a good classic ghost story that holds up to the test of time is hard. et's look at some of them -


The Uninvited:  This 1944 film staring Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey takes place in an English manor home a man and his sister purchase at a great price. Then, they find out why. By today's standards, it is lame, but delightfully so. Great on atmosphere with a touch of romance.







The Haunting:  This 1963 classic starring Julie Harris is perhaps the best haunted house story ever by simply being incredibly feasible. I first watched it in my childhood haunted home and it scared me so much by being so similar to what I experienced, that I stared at the bedroom door all night to see if it would breathe.







The Ghost and Mrs. Muir: This 1947 movie starring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison was a beautifully charming, atmospheric, and romantic storytelling. It remains to this day, my favorite movie, alongside "Jaws."





The Innocents:  This 1961 movie starring Deborah Kerr is a creepy telling of a nanny and the children she must watch in a sad and spooky manor home.






Ghost Story: This 1981 movie has an all-star cast and a very gothic ghostly plot line.  It starts Melvyn Douglas, Fred Astaire, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and John Houseman as four men who keep a secret since their college days that comes back to haunt them.
