Our Bates Motel - Picacho Peak, AZ

A protective dog scared us out of the motel, but we got some fun pics before we rushed away.

**I invite y'all to come over to our blog "Kickin' Up Dust" devoted to a book Julie and I are writing. You will find dark scary tales of our exploits and lots of urban exploration photos and info. Please follow and show the publishers that we are ready to write about our road treks, ghost hunting, and the changes it has led to in our own lives. Also, don't forget, tonight is Lonely on a Friday Night--join us here to chat**

  1. Love it. I answered your quiz. Since I've done three out of the four, that left making horror masks. I have always wanted to do that. I'm not sure how much of a sculptor I am though. I've also wan't to add film auteur to my CV. One day. I think it's rattling around up there but I need a project that will really launch me.

  2. Cullan;
    I was thinking it'd be cool to do 5-minute documentaries for YouTube since no one wants to sit for a full hour on a subject, but you go to so many cool places and get so much cool info, you should do that! It would enhance the things you write about too. Halloween masks--a good start is the craft stores like Michaels and Joann. You can get the basic white mask and work from there using things like plaster of paris. Hmm...

    Zombie--it was creepy but wicked cool!

  3. I thought about pitching a television show based on Strange State to local production companies. Then I think it might make a good national one too. Those haunted travel shows always rehash the same shite; much of the point to SS is the hidden gems uncovered. But yeah, I could do some little 5 minute films. Take a story and narrarate it over some cool footage....

  4. I think something catchy like 5-minute documentaries are a total YouTube vehicle, but can be used to pitch to production companies too. Julie and I talked about a local show for Kickin' Up Dust! in which we travel the state to show the weird, super creepy, unknown things the state has like underground whore house tunnels and haunted locals, abandoned missile silos, and more. We might just pitch that when the book comes out. It could have tiny vignettes on the road of weird shit along the way like the memorial to camels and Tom Mix memorial, "The Thing" and other things along the way to our destination. We consider ourselves the Thelma and Louise of the paranormal world, so it'd be a cool and fun thing to do.

  5. When did that close? I remember doing deliveries to a picacho peak motel back in the early 90's and was wondering if that was the same place.

  7. I believe this was around 2011 when they tore it down, but there is still an area in Picacho that has a gift shop and museum and such, but the big old mid century hotel with the tall sign that was on I-10 is gone and the small motor court motel behind it is gone, the little post office and tabernacle and the few homes that were there are gone.
