Storage Wars!

STARTS WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 1 on A&E

Okay, I'm not usually into these things, although the Hollywood Treasures show is a cool idea (the guy is a total dick, though) and I like the family in Vegas with the Pawn Shop on that other show, but it's so staged it's not really very comfortable. Ya'all know how I adored abandoned sites and sometimes, well, finding leftover treasures. This show actually intrigues me and perhaps that's the part of me that adored that scene in "Silence of the Lambs" when Agent Starling went into the storage unit and found that car and and other scary items....

Well, I'll give it a try. The only thing I hate about these reality shows is that the pick people with the most abrasive personalities that you would hate in real life if you had to deal with them. I don't know why they do that. Do they think it's just loud and aggressive enough to get our short-attention span focused? Here's A&E's write up about it.

A&E presents the new original real-life series “Storage Wars,” which follows four professional buyers and their teams as they scour repossessed storage units in search of hidden treasure. Part gamblers, part detectives, these seasoned veterans have found everything from coffins to the world’s most valuable comic book collection, paying as little as ten dollars for items valued in the millions.

  1. I saw this. It makes me never want to rent a storage unit. I'd be too afraid my stuff get auctioned off by mistake or something.

  2. I could not watch a program like this. The bidders are like vultures waiting to swoop in on the possessions of an unfortunate person who misses a payment. Maybe like an elderly person who falls on hard times, or maybe like someone who passes away and the family isn't aware the storage unit exists.

    ...paying as little as ten dollars for items valued in the millions.
    Not something to be proud of.

  3. Yeah, I've actually known some people that through divorce, left their storage units behind. I always wondered what happened to their stuff. I always assumed the owners either decided to keep some of it or pulled up a dumpster bin. I understand auctioning off drug-industry possessions when they're arrested, but this is rather unethical. It's like that store in the midwest that sells your contents from our lost luggage. Ick.

  4. Hmmmm....could be interesting. Of course it would just piss me off because I am never lucky enough to find cool shit that someone just randomly left - anywhere!

    I've had stuff stolen out of storage before. I'm positive the owners took it, yet they were still excepting my monthly payments like clock work! Then they had the nerve to say "We thought you had moved out." Well Einstein, if you thought I'd moved out why were you still taking my money???? I sued them and got some money back. It was for a complete living room and dining room set. Didn't get what it was worth, but at least it was enough to pay off my debt. JERKS!

  5. Yeah, I've heard horror stories of people using storage units. They're really just hostage-takers, aren't they?

  6. I know someone that this happened to. "Ya snooze, ya lose when you don't make those payments" is what the owner's of the storage facility said to them. They lost everything in their storage unit and there was nothing they could do. I would try other means before putting things in a storage unit and read the fine print.

  7. I sell my crap on yard sale once in a while. I do not have storage.

  8. Echo;
    Smart gal. I simply don't acquire new things. I keep it simple so I can get up and hit the road and don't have to worry about my shit. I'd rather have experiences than possessions. I'm a gypsy at heart.

  9. I've been to a number of auctions for failed businesses. It's always weird.

  10. As a psychic, Pangs, I don't think I'd like the residual of losers on my hands.
