Halloween Last Year

(**I'm taking part in a Q&A with Josh Gates from "Destination Truth" today on the phone. I will be reporting on that asap**)

I realize some of ya'all weren't around last year when I gave the Halloween party I always dreamed of. The theme was "post-apocalyptic graveyard" and I really did it up. Guests arrived at the side gate into the yard where they were greeted by tons of white crosses and black lights making them glow in the dark and spooky music playing. They were greeted by a huge 6-1/2 foot tall mannequin wearing camo's and a gas mask and toxic waste stickers on his clothing. The walls of the yard were draped in moth-eaten looking fabric and then the pool had a bright green light and large plastic containers with toxic symbols on them bobbing in the pool with green glowing fluid in them. The back patio was decorated with a wicked amazing spread of foods (I love entertaining) and a wheelbarrel filled with beers and some wicked punch. A live band was playing inside the house with the doors open. Then, as guests moved into the other side of the yard, they found a graveyard with a ghost floating over it and a grim reaper, a grave with bones coming out of it and black birds picking at it. There was a firepit glowing and the real show stopper was the movie. Against the shed "Brothers Quay" movies played nonstop and they were these creepy films with dolls disassembling dolls in an industrial setting. The shed was covered with creepy tortured dolls, cracking and caged, broken and tormented. The movie played against them too so they looked like part of the film. Inside the house, I decorated the bathroom with tons of autopsy reports and post mortem picks of famous celebrities and suicide notes and such. The party was an enormous success and I had so much fun!!! I hope to do another one some day in a place where there's a real autumn climate so I can get into the mood.

  4. CB; Sorry, dude. I'm going to do a steampunk costume this year, but sexy, nonetheless.

  5. I'm actually throwing my first Halloween party this year! My costume will be a "Gothic Carnival Barker", whom I've dubbed Clive. Get it? Clive the Barker? :P Yeah, I know, that was lame. Anywho, I hope your costume turns out all right! Steampunk IS awesome, afterall.

  6. I love some of those ideas! The pool! Awesome!! I say if they can have wedding planners and party planners, someone should fill a halloween niche. I know I have TONS of ideas, but I seldom get to implement them. :-(

  7. HallweeNut--rock that party! I can't wait to hear about it. Yeah, Steampunk is freaking sexy. I live in the SW and it just seems to suit the dusty place.

    Cullan;
    I'd love to hear our ideas. I'm always daydreaming about the next Halloween party. Some day, I'd like to do something that feels like a 1970s Trick-or-Treating adventure with a suburban neighborhood gone dark and kitschie at night....

  9. I love the steampunk costume idea and can imagine how it can fit in halloween decorated house with elements of mechanisms and metal accents for camera obscura attraction party style.

  11. I totally loved the description of the Brother's Quay setup/display you had going on. I remember you telling me about it last year, too, and immediately thought it sounded awesome! I love the creepy doll thing.

    Congrats on having the Q & A with Josh! I'm looking forward to checking that out.

  12. John;
    Yeah, I'm excited about that. It will actually be the first "vacation" I've had in the past several days, except to sleep. It will be like a personal getaway. Can't wait until I'm unpacked in my new place. I'm putting Halloween up on my birthday like I always wanted to but never could! Yahoo!
