Upcoming Demon-themed Horror Movies

(The trailer from the original “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark”)

Guess what? A remake of “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is coming up. In case you didn’t see the 1970s classic with Kim Darby, you will need to see this one. The movie idea is a great one; a home that has little tiny nighttime demons that torment the woman living there. Very freaky, very uncomfortable. No release date yet, but I’ll be all over this one.

“Night of the Demons” Remake. In post production. February 2010? Shannon Elizabeth.
Angela Feld is throwing the Halloween party to end all Halloween parties at the infamous Broussard Mansion in New Orleans, where dark events transpired almost a century ago. But when the packed party gets busted by the police, Angela and her friends Maddie, Lily, Suzanne, Colin, Dex and Jason are the only ones left behind. Soon Colin and Angela make a grisly discovery in the basement and inexplicable events start to take place. With the mansion gates mysteriously locked, the seven find themselves trapped for the night...and soon they're fighting ancient demons for their very souls.

“The Evil Dead” and “The Gate” are also being remade.

In other words, so far as demon movies go—we’re in for a lot of repeats. I’m definitely going to be following “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark” because I always thought that could have been a lot scarier than the original. It had that Zuni hunting doll feel from “Trilogy of Terror.” It’s amazing how much tiny creatures can freak people out!

  1. Yikes! "Don't Be Afraif Of The Dark" scarred me for life! It could very well be the reason I pack heat around the house! To this day I have a habit of leaving cabiinet doors open.
    "Night Of The Demons" without Linnea Quigley? Not so sure about that one. And I hope "Evil Dead" doesn't suffer from bigger-budget syndrome. The whole low-budget, home movie, unknown cast atmosphere of the original really added to it for me.

  2. Man, I remember that weird little doll! Talk about childhood memories!

    As for the "Evil Dead" remake...(*sigh*)...it was bound to happen sooner or later, I suppose, but the low budget production was one of its charms. You can bet this recycled version is going to go overboard on the effects...

  3. Hey Guys;
    I'm with you--little tiny things are the creepiest. I was just watching "Brotherhood of Satan" today where the creepy-faced baby doll chokes the parents and you see the perspective from the parent's eyes looking at this doll's face up against theirs as it's choking them--the last thing they see! Yikes! I look forward to "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" remake. I thought that they held back a lot in the original and it had that made-for-tv guidelines to the horror. I agree about "Evil Dead." I mean, come on, it's got a cult following. You don't mess with cult movies, like "Hills Have Eyes" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." When they keep remaking movies, I can't help thinking about Michael Douglas, he probably gets it all the time "Your dad was the original--what could you possibly do to outdo the old man?"
