Name Him

Well, admittedly, the dummy is coming along nicely. He's going to stand just inside the yard when guests come through the gate. I want him to hold something intimidating, but not necessarily a rifle. I might use a machete. I'm not sure yet. Anyways, this big fella will hopefully be set up with some red glowing eyes (LED lights) when I'm done. I couldn't figure out what kind of hat to put on top of his Desert Storm scarf, so I opted for the unsettling character from a post-apocalyptic movie--sort of using what they find available. His Viking hat makes me think he needs a good Norse name. I'm up for suggestions. I'm sure the drunks at the party will be calling him by it all evening (and maybe even carrying on conversations).

  1. No ideas for a name, but in keeping with the post-apocalypse look, I'd have him hold something big and intimidating, maybr a piece of farm or gardening equipment like a bush hook or something. Something that looks scavenged.

  2. You are thinking just like me. I was considering a Scythe or something like that. My son is going back to that abandoned trailer park in the desert where he filmed that creepy video "Reverberations" and the entire area was littered with tons and tons of rusted saws, shovels, picks, et cetera...

  3. I just saw Adventures in Babysitting and he looks like the little girl's hero Thore.

  6. Thor it is! Yeah, I'll be getting pictures and hopefully assembling a video of it to go on YouTube which I'll embed in a post.

    Yeah, Lyme disease is miserable, but very treatable. I look for Teddy to be bouncing off the pumpkins in no time. :-)

  7. For some reason I don't see your creation as a Thor. I found myself thinking of Crom, the god from the Conan stories while looking at him. And while Thor is definitely an intimidating name, I always picture him as more of a colorful character. Probably an effect seeing to many pictures of Marvel's version of Thor...anyways, just thought I'd throw in my two cents despite the fact the name is already chosen lol.

  8. I did n't come with a name-like name, but maybe "the Knight of the Shadows"?
    i just read it.It is not really scary, is it?

  9. Crom;
    I like that--sounds like he'd be kind of big and dumb, and that's what he is. My son has a huge tattoo of Odin on his flank--he's sitting on a throne with a few blackbirds and wolves. It's truly amazing. I thought of Odin, but that conjures up someone more magnificent and pretty. This guy is just nasty. I kind of like that name. Thanks. Maybe I should just settle for Berserker.

    Georgina, admittedly, he will be the knight of the shadows. When he's all done, I hope to set him up outside and get a nice twilight shot of him.

  10. HOLY CRUMB! What a most awesome Halloween decoration! I'm with the others. Thor's a great one. In Norse mythology Thor was god of thunder, rain and agriculture. Perfect for the Harvest Season! I'll be curious to hear what you come up with!

  11. I thought of the name 'Orec' when I saw him. I thought it sounded sort of Norse, but also sounded similar to an Orc...like from Lord of the Rings.

  12. You guys are all awesome with the name calling--bet you were wonders on the playground - hee hee. I tell you what. When I get the glowing red eyes working and get a picture of him all set up, I'd like you to see what you think then. I have a feeling once the eyes are glowing, it'll seriously torment. He's about 6'2" tall now. With all the garb on he's rather intimidating. I left him in the kitchen to work on him in he sunlight and I have to admit, when I walk into the kitchen, I startle every time!

  13. Modi (or was it Magni? I think Modi) was the god of the Berserkers.

    Failing that, name him Toki or Skwisgar after one of everyone's favorite Scandinavians (from Metalocalypse).

    You're up on your Norse mythology. I'm Norwegian and I didn't even think of that. Modi was the son of Thor, God of Rage. Great name! My dad would be proud I remember that--he drilled the stuff into us as kids. :-) Thanks!
